🎉 Congratulations to our amazing high school and college interns who spent the summer with us at Parkland Medical Center and our sister hospitals Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Frisbie Memorial Hospital! 🎉

Collegiate students majoring in Healthcare Management & Administration (HMA) participated in our Healthcare Management and Administrative Program – a 10-week experience shadowing in both clinical and non-clinical areas, working closely with operations and leadership and culminating in a hospital-improvement research project. These students brought energy, curiosity and fresh perspectives to every corner of our hospitals.

High school and college students also took part in our Healthcare Career Exploration Program, where they explored nearly every hospital department over seven weeks, gaining hands-on insights into the many roles and career pathways within healthcare. They, too, completed innovative research projects aimed at improving hospital operations.

We’re so proud of everything each student has accomplished – and excited for all that lies ahead. Wishing you all the very best in your future journeys. We hope our paths cross again soon!

Congratulations to our monthly DAISY Award recipient, Emily Brewer, RN, ICU! A patient who submitted a nomination for Emily shared the following:

“I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional care from one of the nurses, Emily. During my recent hospital stay I had the privilege of being under Emily’s care for several days. She consistently went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable. Her kindness, professionalism and dedication made a lasting impression on my recovery and overall experience. From the moment I met Emily, her cheerful demeanor and warm presence made me feel at ease. She took the time to answer my questions with a level of knowledge that was easy to understand. Her ability to break out medical information into clear and reassuring messages was invaluable to me. What set Emily apart was her ability to make me feel that I was the most important patient in the hospital. She treated me with such care and attentiveness. I always felt heard and validated. Her empathy and understanding were evident during every interaction. Emily’s dedication to patient care is truly remarkable. Competency, attentiveness and depth of knowledge reflect the highest standard of nursing excellence. I am incredibly grateful for everything she did to support me during my stay. Thank you for fostering a team that includes nurses like Emily."

🧠⏱️ Every second counts when someone is suffering from a stroke. At Parkland Medical Center, we’re proud to be part of our larger HCA Healthcare system of care, which collectively responds to strokes 45% faster than the national standard. We know door-to-needle (DTN) time is critical. Here, we explain what DTN time is and why it matters.

DTN time is the amount of time between an ischemic stroke patient's arrival at the hospital (“door”) and when they receive a clot-busting medication (“needle”) to help restore blood flow to the brain. The faster the medicine is given, the more brain cells can potentially be saved, helping to reduce the risk of long-term disability or stroke.

Know the signs of stroke. Act FAST. Call 911 immediately.
