✨’The best way to spread Christmas cheer is… helping neighbors far and near!’✨ (Buddy probably said that? 😉)

This year, we’re putting real intention behind our annual donation drive. Instead of our usual passive approach, we’re actively working to raise funds for our partner, West Des Moines Human Services — an incredible organization supporting neighbors with:

💛 Emergency rent & utility assistance
💛 Youth recreational assistance
💛 Clothing, food, and household essentials
💛 And MANY other programs helping those experiencing hardship

While we wish no one struggled with these needs, it hits especially hard during the holidays and cold winter months. So… we’re getting creative!

🎁 WIN YOUR OWN BUDDY THE ELF CUTOUT! 🎁

Project Recovery Iowa offers free, confidential, virtual, and in-person support and counseling to Iowans experiencing emotional distress such as anxiety, or feelings of being overwhelmed due to the recent tornados and flooding.

Services are offered in-person, wherever the person is comfortable, whether it be in the home, the library or in a park. Project Recovery Iowa comes to you! Project Recovery Iowa uses chat, in-person, phone, text and social media tools.

We know the severe weather that impacted many Iowans caused much more than property damage. Catastrophic weather can cause long-lasting emotional issues for people, and we want to be able to provide support to Iowans regardless of the cause.

It is completely normal to feel emotional distress after a natural disaster. These feelings can show up right away, or even days, weeks, or months after a storm. Anyone needing support, is encouraged to reach out for assistance.

Tornado counties covered: Adair, Clarke, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Polk, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, Story, Union

Flood counties pending: Clay, Emmet, Lyon, Plymouth and Sioux

Iowans can access services through the following options:

Did you know Iowa requires that children are vaccinated for tetanus, diphtheria, hep-B, pertussis, polio, measles, rubella and chickenpox before going to school? Older children may also need to get the meningococcal vaccine. Talk to your child’s healthcare provider to make sure their vaccinations are up to date.

Schedule your kid's appointments now and beat the back-to-school rush. Why Wait? Vaccinate!

Chickenpox is a very contagious disease. It causes a blister-like rash, itching, tiredness, and fever. Chickenpox used to be very common in the U.S. Each year, chickenpox caused about 4 million cases, about 10,600 hospitalizations and 100 to 150 deaths.

Two doses of the vaccine are about 90% effective at preventing chickenpox. When you get vaccinated, you protect yourself and others in your community. This is especially important for people who cannot get vaccinated, such as those with weakened immune systems or pregnant women.

Some people who are vaccinated against chickenpox may still get the disease. However, it is usually milder with fewer blisters and little or no fever. Talk with your healthcare professional if you have questions about chickenpox vaccine.

Why Wait? Vaccinate!

Did you know that getting together with your friends is good for your brain? Eating a healthy diet full of fruits and veggies, staying physically active, stopping smoking and being social can all significantly boost your brain's health and reduce your risk of Alzheimer's disease. Engaging in fun and meaningful social activities may help to build up your brain’s ability to cope with disease, relieve stress, and instantly improve your mood.
