Many of the patterns that show up in adult relationships didn’t start there.
In Relational Life Therapy, we often talk about the Adaptive Child—the part of us that learned how to survive our childhood environment. Those strategies once protected us, but in adulthood they can show up as people-pleasing, emotional shutdown, hypervigilance, or conflict avoidance in our relationships.
The good news is that these patterns can be understood, healed, and transformed.
If you’re noticing old survival strategies showing up in your relationships, therapy can help you move from survival to connection. Reach out today to learn more.

👋Way harsh, Tai! (If you get this reference, you are a Xennial, like ME).

🧠But for REAL, the diagnosis of ADHD isn’t a vibe. It’s a system backlog.

🧠It’s years (sometimes decades-LITERALLY) of:
👉misread symptoms (especially in girls/women, high-maskers, and “high achievers”)
👉anxiety/depression/burnout getting treated while the executive dysfunction stays unnamed
👉coping on caffeine, adrenaline, people-pleasing, and shame until peri/menopause (or stress/parenting/life load) strips the mask and everything collapses

🧠So no, this isn’t a “trend.” It’s people finally getting language for what they’ve been surviving.

🧠If you were diagnosed late: you’re not behind. You were missed.

❤️If this landed, comment CALM so I can send some love to your nervous system today. OH, and feel free to share with ANYONE who might need this reminder🤣🤦🏻‍♀️🗣️.

Love you, Surthriving With You, XO, Dr. Jen

Healing from childhood stuff is tricky because you have to teach yourself all the things you should have been taught years ago. It is safe to have needs. It is safe to take up space. Which one of these hits home for you today?
