Check out this resource from the The Dibble Institute! Me & My Emotions is designed to support teens social-emotional learning and development. Young people aged 13 and up can now learn and practice skills to build resilience. Developed in response to the pandemic-related toxic stress youth have endured during the pandemic, Me & My Emotions invites teens to slow down, check in with themselves, and develop practices such as self-soothing and mindfulness practices, managing stress effectively, developing empathy, developing a life of intention, and building and using a support system.

Check out the feedback received by recent participants in FLASH (Family Life and S*xual Health) Curriculum delivered by Lutheran Services in Iowa! FLASH is a s*xual health education curriculum designed to prevent teen pregnancy, STDs, s*xual violence, and increase knowledge about the reproductive system and puberty. The curriculum further strengthens the protective factors in supporting students in remaining abstinent, using birth control and condoms, and respecting other's decisions not to have s*x.

Research shows that there’s no magic wand to wave when it comes to preventing unplanned adolescent pregnancy. Parents and other trusted adults can have an influential role in helping teens and youth avoid negative, risky behaviors, including an unplanned pregnancy. Conversations regarding s*x and healthy relationships need to start early and continue throughout adolescence. If you’re not sure how to start these conversations or what to say, you’re not alone!

Tap through for tips on getting the conversation started - each question is meant to be a general starting points and should be tailored according to age and other relevant factors.

Remember, it's never too early to start the conversation. Normalizing s*x dialogue is an important part of creating healthier relationships, better outcomes, and ultimately, lowering unplanned pregnancy rates.

It’s about RELATIONSHIPS: focus your energy on the positive people in your life. It’s about RESPECT: set boundaries for yourself and only do what’s comfortable.
