Reiki is known to be an effective non-evasive method to decrease and even stop pain attributed to diseases and physical disorders. In October of 2005, Harvard Medical School reported that they integrated “Healing Touch Therapy,” which was aimed “to change the body’s ‘energy fields’ into their cardiac care practices.” They also reported that several studies of such treatments “have shown positive r
esults in people hospitalized for heart trouble.” Other medical journals recently stated the positive effects of Reiki and well-known Dr. Oz has been quoted as saying, “Reiki has become sought-after healing art among patients and mainstream professionals.” Numerous hospitals, medical clinics and hospice programs such as Columbia University Medical Center, Yale New Haven Hospital, and John Hopkins Integrative Medicine and Digestive Center, use Reiki as part of care. In 2007, I became interested in energy work when I unexpectedly felt heat flowing through my hands and arms and I could sense energy from others. After researching the topic, I learned that working with this energy is called Reiki and its purpose is to clear away energy blockages that can disrupt one's health and well-being. A Reiki Master from the direct lineage of Master Mikao Usui, the founder of the spiritual and complementary healing process, attuned me that year. As a Reiki Master, my purpose is to clear away energy blockages so that clients can feel clear to access their authentic power. Reiki allows soothing life force energy to run through chakra system to aid in physical, emotional, mental, and/or spiritual recovery. When the body's energy field is out of balance—sometimes due to fear, guilt, or stress—the inability to draw on these energy wheels can create dis-ease, and if not addressed—or at least acknowledged, can manifest into diseases. As I use Reiki energy to clear away the blockages and balance the body, clients feel a sense of comfort and peace. The aim of Reiki is to facilitate wholeness. When working with energy, I do not diagnose disease or mental disorders. I believe meditation and guided visualization help to release any feelings and attitudes that inhibit the immune system from functioning at its fullest potential. Complementary techniques that utilize the power and effectiveness of the mind can reduce stress, and consequently normalize the action of the autonomic nervous system. I am looking forward to meeting you and hope that I can become part of your journey to self-empowerment and self-healing. Sincerely, Jenette Yamamoto
