The American Foundation for Su***de Prevention is excited to launch The Upright. Scientific research shows the importance of offering culturally informed resources for mental health and su***de prevention. The unique lived experiences of diverse individuals and communities are critical factors when developing su***de prevention strategies.

But many programs and policies are developed without direct input from the communities they strive to support, leaving critical gaps in access, effectiveness, and cultural relevance.

The Upright was created to change that. Rooted in equity, action, and collaboration, The Upright serves as a hub for our health equity work, which is embedded in everything we do.

Our friends at Hamilton's Academy for Grief and Loss have another session of their Little Hands Program coming up in October. This three-session grief program is for children ages 4 to 7 years old. During the program, children have the opportunity to interact with others their own age who have experienced the death of someone. Through play, stories, games, songs, talking about feelings, art and conversations with our bunny puppet, named “Hamilton,” children find a comfortable place to express their thoughts and feelings.

This program is offered at no cost to the families and open to any child in the community. Pre-registration is required to ensure we have enough supplies and staff for the children attending:

This three-session grief program for children ages 3½ to 6 years old gives children a chance to interact with others their own age who have experienced the death of someone loved.
