I'm back! Life is sometimes busier than expected, and that's been the case these past couple of weeks. I'm still excited to share WHY I'm making changes in how my brand is represented. Why the change from SomaYoga to Somatic Yoga Therapy? Because a majority of what I do is Somatics. Because people are hearing the word Somatics and are curious about it. Because Yoga Therapy is what I do (which is different and has different requirements than a yoga teacher.) Because it defines what I do better!
Somatics is teaching people Interoception - learning to sense and feel what's happening in our bodies, from the inside. How am I holding myself in space? What muscles are tight vs taught (shortened and contracted vs being stretched/pulled)? How am I breathing? It's a departure from what we do in most healthcare settings, and it's powerful. So, the full word, Somatics, in the name.
Yoga Therapy is a field that is still emerging, and still figuring out exactly what that looks like. In short, a Yoga Therapist goes through training that is 1000 hours. It includes deep study in ancient yogic maps, the 8 limbs (did you know there is more than just poses), Ayurveda, focusing the mind, breath practices, and my training included a deep dive into Somatics. A yoga teacher is certified at 200 hours. So, Yoga Therapy will be included in the name.
Check back for more! As always, if you have questions about Somatic Yoga Therapy, message me! Curious if it might help you? Same..... Pam@athasomayoga.com. The website and email hasn't changed yet. All in good time.
