Wild Card Wednesday, Part 5: PRK. Photorefractive Keratectomy. Another in a sea of vision correction acronyms!

Photo — light. Refractive — how your eye bends that light. Keratectomy — reshaping the cornea. Put it together and you get a laser vision correction procedure that reshapes the cornea's surface directly, no flap involved. For patients with thinner corneas or certain eye characteristics that make LASIK less ideal, PRK is often the better path — and Modern Vision Centers in West Des Moines offers it alongside six other modern procedures.

Eye surgery surprises. *Good* ones!

Most people walk into laser vision correction expecting a long procedure and a slow recovery. What they tell us afterward is almost always the same.

First, how fast the procedure goes. LASIK, SMILE, and PRK are ten minutes or less per eye. Second, how quickly vision comes back. Most patients are seeing clearly the next morning, driving themselves to their follow-up, and are back to their normal routine within days.
