Let's get ahead of the chaos, together!

Our PBS Ethics Committee has you covered with tips this month!

Dr. Shane Spiker writes, "Back to school can be a difficult time for many of our learners. Ethical and effective transitions back into school doesn't have to be painful, though. Behavior analysts can plan sessions to include gradual transitions into school routines, which can successfully reduce risks and potential harms related to the change in routines."

The Autism Society of Florida reports that children with autism are 160 times more likely to drown. You can keep your loved one safe by dressing them in swimsuit colors that are neon and vibrant to increase visibility.

These colors include bright, neon colors like orange, yellow, and green to help your loved one stand out in the water.

Avoid blues and dark colors, as they can blend into the water and make it difficult to spot your loved one.

While bright swimsuit colors improve visibility, active supervision is the key to keeping your child safe.

Summer doesn’t wait — and neither should water safety.

It’s officially summer, and there’s no better time to prioritize water safety for your child. Children with autism are often drawn to water but may not recognize its dangers.

Some ways to support water safety include installing pool fences, using door alarms, enrolling in swim lessons, supervising at ALL times, learning CPR, prepping with social stories, and planning ahead for loud noises, visuals, floaties, and transitions during lessons.

With a little preparation, pool days can be both fun and safe — even on the hottest days.
