LAST DAY OF BLACK BREASTFEEDING WEEK AND IM CELEBRATING MY CLIENTS AND THOSE CLOSEST TO ME!

had a long, hard birth. What was originally planned as a home birth turned into an emergency c-section. Although her birth did not go as planned I have watched this mama (now sister because I’m a part of the family once her dad found out we had the same last name) 😅😂 grow into a beautiful, hard working mama and now a Doula herself!!
elise_ ‘s birth was a beautiful easy going one. She requested to binge watch bob’s burgers in her birth plan! Needless to say her labor and delivery was filled with lots of laughter! Shiane is now a doula as well and just like Jaelle is now backing me up!

Putting these two together because they are so so so special to me! These two are my doulas baby’s/ sisters in this small birthworking community here in Detroit and I’m so proud of them for taking a step towards building their own practices, giving more families much needed support. 🥰✨

was my first OR birth at U of M! She unexpectedly had an emergency C-Section due to some scary complications. Her and her husband were and still are such a great team. Although they have moved back home to NOLA with their family I hold them very close to my heart because it’s not often that I see a love like theirs! So supportive, funny, caring, loving and kind to one another! On top of all that, this mama was able to breastfeed and had one of the biggest over supplies I’ve ever seen! She didn’t let the trauma of a C-section or ongoing health issues scare her when it came to her breastfeeding journey. I miss yall so much and just so yall know I’m coming to visit my bby for Mardi Gras this year, so get the guest room ready! 😅😂✨🥰

f0rm is one of my closest, bestest friends. We met in my interview at UCHC while she was pregnant with Nora. When we first started working together she walked in one day with her breast pump looking defeated because there wasn’t a dedicated space for her to pump. We created space that day and I forced her to pump 😂🥰. Our forever friendship was created at work, now I’m an auntie to the cutest bby girl. I am so proud of the mother, woman and friend she has become. Love you girl! 🥰✨ Keep that smile on your face and keep celebrating the small moments!

LAST DAY OF BLACK BREASTFEEDING WEEK AND IM CELEBRATING MY CLIENTS!!

was my first home birth and by far my most memorable! The most love, community filled birth, she gave birth on Indigenous peoples day almost 3 years ago. Peacefully in her home. Less than an hour later she was getting her kids ready for school.

Happy 35 months of breastfeeding to you! 🥰❤️

As a final reminder, the City of Detroit's application for home repair assistance is now open. You can apply here:

You will have until 11:59 PM on Monday, Aug. 18 to complete the first step of HRD’s home repair application.

Once you create a login and get to the application homepage, start the application for "Single Family Home Repair."

Home repair funding is extremely limited, and assistance will be prioritized to households with the most critical health and safety repair needs.

If you have already begun your application, please make sure you finish it and submit it by the deadline listed above. No late entries will be accepted.

The City of Detroit will also host in-person assistance days to help you complete your application. The final in-person support day will take place on:

August 14, 2:30 PM to 7 PM, Patton Recreation Center, 2301 Woodmere, Detroit, M

In case you didn’t know… accepts Medicaid and is fully contracted with the health plans above!

If you’re looking for a doula and have anyone one of these insurance/health plans through Medicaid, know that you are FULLY covered for Doula support!

That’s right! IT’s FREE TO YOU!! But worth between $2700 and $3300 in support!

Medicaid in Michigan covers 12 visits, birth and labor support, and an additional 6 visits for those who need it.

Please take advantage of this privilege! Just going to the hospital and popping out a baby without the correct protection or support shouldn’t be normal, you deserve quality care and support!
