Importance of maintaining Elders Hygiene

Giving elderly people regular showers is crucial for maintaining hygiene, which prevents skin infections and bedsores. It also improves mental well-being by boosting mood and confidence, controls body odor, enhances circulation, and can help prevent falls by providing support. Regular bathing also preserves a senior's sense of independence and can offer caregivers peace of mind.

Health benefits:

Prevents infections: Regular bathing helps prevent skin infections, rashes, and bedsores by washing away bacteria and dead skin cells.
Improves circulation: Showering can help stimulate blood flow, which is essential for healthy skin and tissues.

Checks for health issues: A caregiver can use bath time to spot new wounds, bruises, rashes, or swelling that might indicate an underlying health problem.
Controls body odor: Proper hygiene prevents body odor, which can lead to embarrassment and social withdrawal.

KEEPING ELDERLY COUPLES TOGETHER WITH HOME CARE ‼️

📌Plan Ahead and Start Home Care Early

The earlier you begin planning for home care, the easier it will be to keep your parents together and allow them to age in place. Many families avoid discussing care until the last minute, leaving them with few options for care and even less time to choose. By planning for care in advance, you can get ahead of worst-case scenarios and extend the time your parents spend in one another’s company.
One of the smartest steps you can take is to get started with home care early. Most people assume that caregivers help seniors age in place only by helping out after physical or cognitive decline has taken place. This isn’t true. In fact, caregivers can help stave off decline before it occurs. By providing in-home assistance, home care can delay the difficulties that lead seniors to nursing care in the first place.

Many people worry about the costs of professional home care. But care costs are substantially lower early on. Instead of waiting for your mom or dad to become overwhelmed caring for their spouse, you can hire a caregiver for a few hours a week. The caregiver can handle the toughest aspects of care, while your other parent can perform the care tasks that are easier to handle. This way, you keep care costs low, maintain quality of life for one parent, and prevent your other parent from becoming overwhelmed.

Even if you don’t get started with home care immediately, planning ahead offers other benefits. You’ll be able to plan ahead financially, giving you a better sense of what will be best and most realistic. You’ll also get the chance to research local home care providers, so that you have a better idea of your parents’ options for care.

WHEN TO TALK TO THE DOCTOR ABOUT MEMORY LOST❗️

Memory loss that is getting worse and interferes with your daily life is not a normal part of aging. Memory lapses—like getting lost while driving on your familiar route to the grocery store or having trouble recalling very recent events—could be something more serious to discuss with a health care provider.

A growing problem
The most common sign of dementia is severe memory loss that tends to get worse over time. Dementia can be caused by a variety of conditions, but Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause. An estimated 6.7 million older adults have Alzheimer’s disease in the United States, and that number is expected to double by 2060.

The biggest increases will be among adults belonging to certain racial and ethnic minority groups.
Memory loss that is getting worse or more frequent can be an early warning sign of dementia, but not all people with worsening memory loss will go on to develop Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.

What is Parkinson’s?

Parkinson’s disease is a disorder of the nervous system. It can best be described as a movement disorder. It is progressive, whereby the symptoms worsen over time. It develops gradually, with the first symptoms being barely noticeable.

Often this is seen as a slight tremor in just one hand. While tremors are the most widely known symptom of the disease, it can also emerge as stiffness (or rigidity of the muscles) and slowing of movement and speech that becomes soft or slurred.

Parkinson’s can also result in non-motor symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, constipation, and fatigue. The symptoms result from a progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the section of the brain that regulates body movements.

Alzheimers is a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions.

Brain cell connections and the cells themselves degenerate and die, eventually destroying memory and other important mental functions.

Memory loss and confusion are the main symptoms.

No cure exists, but medications and management strategies may temporarily improve symptoms.

Living with Alzheimer’s may seem like the end of the world with the right care plan created for you and your family will help ease the worry and stress on the family .

How often should you check on elderly parents❓

When it comes to determining how often you need to do a senior check-in, you must assess the elderly individual's personal needs. 💕

If they are getting by just fine, whether at home or in a care facility, you may be able to be a little more flexible with your schedule and do check-ins only a few times a week.💗💕

UNDERSTANDING ALZHEIMERs

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that gradually impairs memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out daily activities. It is the most common form of dementia, a broader term for cognitive decline.

While there's no cure, understanding the disease, its symptoms, and risk factors is crucial for early diagnosis and management.

Understanding the Basics:
Progressive Nature: Alzheimer's develops gradually, with symptoms worsening over time.

Brain Damage: It's caused by damage to nerve cells in the brain, leading to shrinkage and impaired communication between cells.

Memory Loss: Early symptoms often involve forgetting recent conversations or events, misplacing items, and struggling to find the right words.

Cognitive Decline: As the disease progresses, thinking, planning, and language skills are affected.

Behavioral Changes: Personality changes, mood swings, and increased agitation can occur.
No Cure, but Treatments Exist: While there's no cure, medications and therapies can help manage symptoms and slow the progression of the disease.

Here at JOVIAL HOMECARE AGENCY we specialize in Working with individuals with Alzheimer’s and Dementia . Our Caregivers are certified in PAC dementia and Alzheimer training .
