Detroit VA Medical Center

Detroit VA Medical Center Welcome to the VA Detroit page! Since 1939, this VA facility has been improving the health of the men and women who have proudly served our nation.

In 1996, the medical center was moved from Allen Park, Michigan to the current location in Detroit. The John D. Dingell VAMC is one of the newest VA facilities in the country. We consider it our privilege to serve the health care needs of our Veterans in any way we can. Services are available to more than 330,000 Veterans living in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and St. Clair counties. This population represents approximately46 percent of the Veteran population in the lower peninsula of Michigan.

The Federal EHR went live April 11 at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, VA Battle Creek Medical Center, VA Detroit Healthcare System, and the VA Saginaw Healthcare System. This is the first wave of 13 planned deployments in 2026 under VA’s accelerated schedule, which is aimed at fulfilling the promise of a more connected, efficient and patient-centered experience across all VA facilities.

VA deploys new Federal Electronic Health Record system at four hospitals in Michigan – the first deployment in years after the Biden Administration paused the rollout of this important technology in 2023.

Attention Veterans: The Detroit VA Healthcare System officially went LIVE with the new Federal Electronic Health Record! We celebrated Friday by welcoming VA Secretary Doug Collins and VA Deputy Secretary Paul R. Lawrence Ph.D., to the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center for a wonderful ceremony.

We appreciate our staff's hard work over the last year to get us to this point. We're excited to sustain the success that we've worked so hard to create. We're proud to complete this project alongside our VA partners in Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, and Saginaw, and to lead the VA into the future of Veteran healthcare.

At Detroit VA Healthcare System, we are excited to launch the Federal EHR to improve health care delivery for all Veterans. As a Veteran, here are a few things that may look different to you after go-live:
 Appointment summaries and other printed materials will look more modern
 Care team names in secure messages might be different; we’re working to make team names clearer and easier for you to recognize
 Prescription numbers on medication bottles will be different than what’s online; they’ll line up once you get a new refill
 You might see trainers helping our staff learn the new system
 You’ll notice new technology around the facility!
What is not changing is the same high-quality health care you have come to expect at Detroit VA Healthcare System. Learn more about the Federal EHR:
