March Madness is all about strategic decisions on the court, tough matchups, and making it to the final round. While all eyes are on our favorite basketball teams, there are some decisions that need your attention too.

Planning ahead isn’t about expecting the worst—it’s about caring for the people you love in the best way possible. It’s making sure your voice is heard, your wishes are known, and your family isn’t left guessing.

This bracket is a simple way to think through the steps that bring peace of mind—not just for you, but for everyone connected to you. You don’t have to do everything at once, just start somewhere.

Which one are you choosing first?

Women have always been the heart of care, compassion, and community. And in funeral service, that legacy continues to grow. Today, women make up nearly 70% of mortuary science students and about 44% of licensed funeral directors—bringing not only expertise, but empathy, strength, and grace.

This Women’s History Month, we honor all women who have chosen this calling—and we proudly celebrate our own:
JoAnn Hill-Brown, Licensed Funeral Director, Chapel of Grace
Marie A. Taylor, Licensed Funeral Director, River Rouge
Ursula B. Woodruff-Harris, Licensed Funeral Director, Detroit West

Each of these women represents a commitment to serving families with dignity, care, and intention—continuing a legacy of excellence rooted right here in our community. As proud alumni of Wayne State University, just like our Founder, Clora Major Jr., they carry forward a tradition of leadership, service, and impact across metro Detroit.

We honor your work. We honor your presence. And we thank you for the Major Difference you make—every single day.

Did you know the oldest Black-owned funeral home in the U.S. was actually a secret "safe house" for the Civil Rights Movement?

Since 1878, Bynes-Royall Funeral Home in Savannah has been more than a business—it was a sanctuary. When activists couldn’t meet in public without being targeted, they met here. When student protesters were jailed, the Bynes family used their own resources to post bail. They turned the "business of death" into a lifeline for the living, proving that local businesses have always been the heartbeat of the fight for justice.

At Clora Funeral Home, our goal has always been to be a safe haven for families and our community. Whether we're caring for your loved one, giving away scholarships, or helping your family plan for your estate - we're here to create ease.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor those who paved the way for our freedom and our professions. Today, we celebrate the first Black American mortician, Prince Greer.

Born into slavery, Prince Greer became America’s first historically recorded African-American embalmer — a true pioneer in mortuary science. During and after the Civil War, he learned embalming and went on to help bring dignity and care to families in their most difficult moments. His courage, skill, and entrepreneurial spirit helped open doors for generations of Black funeral directors, embalmers, and morticians who followed.

At Clora Funeral Home, we carry forward that same commitment to dignity, respect, and compassionate care for every family we serve. Prince Greer’s story is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come — and why honoring history matters deeply in the work we do.

Today, we honor the birth, life, and enduring legacy of a man whose dream echoed around the world. A man who envisioned not only the end of racism, but the realization of true freedom for all. He boldly preached and lived the Gospel, even in the face of immense opposition and even threats of death. May his legacy continue to guide and challenge us.

This Thanksgiving, we are especially grateful for the families who have entrusted us with the honor of celebrating the lives of their loved ones. 🧡 As we gather around our tables, we also hold space for those who are missing a seat at theirs.
