Happy Birthday to Lisa Scarpace!

For over 29 years, Lisa has been a remarkable leader and valued member of the Henry Ford Health family, making significant contributions across Radiology, Research, Neurosurgery, and the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center. She challenges physicians to tackle the most complex cases, ensures every patient is treated like family, and has played a vital role in elevating our center to a world-class level.

ICYMI:
We are honored to share a remarkable achievement! On August 25, 2025, the Henry Ford Hermelin Brain Tumor Center’s Brain Tumor Bank collected its 6,000th tumor sample.

What began with the vision and leadership of Dr. Mark Rosenblum has grown into one of the largest and most respected tumor banks in the world—a resource that continues to power discoveries transforming how we understand, diagnose, and treat brain tumors.

This milestone is above all a tribute to our patients and families. Their willingness to contribute to research—even in the midst of their own journeys—is the reason progress is possible. Each donation is a gift of hope, advancing science for generations to come. Every sample tells a story of courage and generosity—contributions that are truly priceless.

To our patients: thank you for entrusting us with your gift and your trust in our care.

To our researchers and clinicians: thank you for carrying forward this vision with passion and innovation.

To David Hermelin, his family, and friends, whose generosity made our Center possible, along with the many other philanthropists who continue to support this mission—thank you for your extraordinary commitment to advancing brain tumor research.

Here’s to the next milestone—and to a future where brain tumors are no longer a threat.

Congratulations to Dr. Laila Poisson! 🎉

We are thrilled to celebrate Dr. Laila Poisson for being selected as the recipient of the Michigan Biostatistics Significant Alumni Award! This prestigious honor recognizes early and mid-career alumni from the University of Michigan's Department of Biostatistics who have made outstanding contributions to research, teaching, leadership, mentorship, and innovation.

Dr. Poisson’s groundbreaking work in neuro-oncology—including the development of non-invasive glioma diagnosis markers and the standardization of tumor data—has significantly advanced the field of brain tumor research at Henry Ford Hermelin Brain Tumor Center. Her dedication to inclusive excellence, mentorship of emerging biostatisticians, and leadership in statistical education reflect the best of what this award represents.

She will be officially honored at JSM 2025 and will present a featured seminar on August 28 in Ann Arbor.

Please join us in celebrating Laila’s incredible achievements and lasting impact on science, public health, and the HBTC community! 👏🧠📊

We are happy to have national partners that offer programs that our community can take advantage of. If you are experiencing grief the National Brain Tumor Society offers a grief support group.

Led by Holly Gainsboro, National Brain Tumor Society’s Grief Support Group is an open, supportive space for bereaved brain tumor community members to share their experiences with grief among peers and under the guidance of a professional facilitator.

The Grief Support Group welcomes anyone who has lost a loved one to a brain tumor and offers participants the space to be heard while also providing tools and resources to support individuals through their grieving process.

The next meeting is Thursday, September 4th. You can register here:
