We’re excited to introduce two interns at the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic this semester, Jalyn Volkmer and Emily Coleman!

Jalyn and Emily are third-year students at Detroit Mercy Law who joined our Family Law Clinic last fall. This winter, they continued their commitment to serving our community as legal interns, assisting clients with a variety of family law matters.

Jalyn shared that her experience at WBLAC confirmed her passion for pro bono legal aid work and inspired her to pursue a career in expanding access to justice. Emily reflected that her time at the clinic helped her discover where she fits within the legal profession and clarified the path she hopes to follow after graduation.

We are proud to have been a part of their legal education and are excited to see their impact as future attorneys. Congratulations to Jalyn and Emily as they prepare to graduate this spring!

✨Legal Aid Attorneys✨

Access to justice shouldn’t depend on income. In Metro Detroit, legal aid attorneys play a critical role in ensuring that individuals and families facing financial hardship still have a voice in the legal system. These advocates work tirelessly to uphold fairness and dignity for all.

Their work doesn’t just change individual lives, it strengthens the whole of our community. When people have access to legal support, neighborhoods become more stable, families stay housed, and rights are protected.

Today we celebrate the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic’s attorneys who ensure that all of our clients are understood and heard. They are practitioners, teachers, and community builders. Pictured here, Cara L. Koeske, Esq., Amy M. Roemer, Esq. and Sydney M. Gebara, Esq. commit themselves daily to accessible justice in the Metro Detroit community.

Let’s recognize and uplift the attorneys who make equal access to the law a reality every day.

Happy 313 Day, Detroit!

Today, on 3/13, we celebrate the heart, resilience, and pride of our city, and the iconic 313 area code that connects our community. At the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic, we’re proud to serve Detroit and the people who make this city so special.

Last week, attorney Sydney Gebara led the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic’s Default Day, coordinating with our dedicated staff and Detroit Mercy law students to assist twelve clients seeking legal support.

Default Day is one of the many services our clinic provides at no cost to members of the local community. By offering guidance, we ensure that individuals are not navigating the legal system alone.

Access to justice can change lives. When people have the support and information they need to address legal challenges, they are able to stabilize their circumstances and move forward with confidence. We’re proud to make that possible for members of the community.

We're proud to celebrate three of our attorneys from The Salvation Army's William Booth Legal Aid Clinic who volunteered at the Bed & Bread Radiothon last week, helping Radiothon surpass its fundraising goal!

The Bed & Bread program provides meals, shelter, and essential services to individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. We're grateful to support this incredible work and thankful to everyone who donated to help make it possible.

At WBLAC, we believe access to both justice and basic necessities go hand in hand. Thank you to our team members and the many generous supporters who helped make this success possible!

And the final tally is…🎉

Because of YOU, we didn’t just meet our goal, we surpassed it‼️

Thank you to every sponsor, donor, volunteer, and listener who made this year’s Bed & Bread Radiothon possible. Your generosity will help provide meals, support, and hope to our neighbors who need it most. ❤️

We’re already counting down the days until next year. 🎙️✨
