Detroit Receiving Hospital, along with Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network and Sobriety House, gathered to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Peer Recovery Coach Program at Detroit Receiving. For ER patients dealing with addiction and substance use disorders, this model is proving to be extremely effective. In their first year, Peer Recovery Coaches and team completed over 900 screenings, over 600 referrals for treatment, and a nearly 70% success rate for placement into a recovery program. They team is looking forward to expanding these services. Congratulations to the coaches and staff on an impressive first year of care for our community.

Meet Raymond, our “Patient of the Month.” At 19-years-old, Raymond was shot in the head during a robbery; the bullet exited his eye.
“They removed his eye and part of his skull to relieve pressure. His odds weren’t good and if he survived, he likely wouldn’t be very high functioning,” said Raymond’s mom.
Raymond survived and a month later, he was transferred to DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan where experts worked to help him sit up, feed himself and do daily activities.
“It’s amazing how quickly he started understanding things and then sitting up on his own. I’ll never forget the day when he took his first step. I cried. It was a miracle from God and RIM,” added his mom. Read his full story at http://spr.ly/61883vj5I
