Detroit seniors, I want to make sure you don’t miss this opportunity. The deadline is April 15 to apply early for the Senior Citizen Solid Waste Discount, which cuts the annual garbage fee in half from $270 to $135 and ensures the savings appear on your summer tax bill.

Last week, DAAA participated in the 2026 USAgingPolicy Conference to engage directly in federal policy discussions impacting older adults, caregivers, and community‑based aging services.

Alongside aging leaders and legislators, we participated in a full day of advocacy on Capitol Hill and engaged with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, Senator Elissa Slotkin, Congresswoman Haley Stevens, and Congressman Shri Thanedar to advance priorities critical to Metro Detroit’s aging population.

A productive exchange with Gary Torgow, Chairman of Huntington National Bank, further underscored the importance of public‑private collaboration in strengthening systems that support aging with dignity, access, and independence.
