Standing in Strength
•⁣⁣⁣
We were all created with a set of intentional gifts and tendencies to help shape our bigger picture- the end goal. I often think of my strengths and try to lean in to them daily. I feel the more I develop my self-awareness, the more capable I will be for the mission I’m leading.
•⁣⁣⁣
We were created for a purpose, with a set of gifts and skills. When people say, “Patterns leave clues”, it refers to how we make a habit out of operating in these strengths to achieve our current goals and successes. Those instances can leave clues for what it will take to fuel our future success- where we need to develop, and what strengths we need to lean in to and operate in.
•⁣⁣⁣
Some questions to ask ourselves each day:
•⁣⁣⁣
What am I good at?
•⁣⁣⁣
How have I used what I’m good at in the past in ways that have given me success?
•⁣⁣⁣
And deeper…
•⁣⁣⁣
When did I not use what I’m good at in moments where I knew I should’ve?
•⁣⁣⁣
We each have strengths. We can choose daily to operate in this power, and allow others to join us, fill in our weaknesses, and surge forward!
•⁣⁣
DM and let’s chat more about this.

LETS BUILD TOGETHER
•⁣⁣⁣
Each and every day we step forward into our daily roles-Whether that’s as a student, a physical therapist, or a provider for the family. When we do this, whether we like it or not, we’re creating. We’re building. We’re giving out energy and taking it in.
•⁣⁣⁣
So I ask us today…
•⁣⁣⁣
What are we building?
•⁣⁣⁣
See, what surrounds us gives us feedback on what we create.
•⁣⁣⁣
Are we surrounding ourselves with negativity? Things that detract, discourage, even condemn?
•⁣⁣⁣
Or are we around the opposite? Positivity, encouragement, love.
•⁣⁣⁣
Both sides are part of the journey, but it’s up to us to make the choices each day in these roles that bring us together, bring us energy, bring us joy, gratitude and fulfillment.
•⁣⁣⁣
We are what we attract. So let’s build positivity. Let’s build with light. Let’s vet our circles and environments and keep creating for good, for togetherness, and for the better.

FIND YOUR ROAR
•⁣⁣⁣
I want to talk about dreams. We all have them. A burning desire deep down inside that can’t stay quiet.
•⁣⁣⁣
Unless we quiet it.
•⁣⁣⁣
I pivoted from a dream of going to Princeton and playing lacrosse because of a hip injury. During that rehab process, I was able to get back on the field when every doctor was predicting a hip replacement at 18. At the latest 25. The reason for that, was because of what I experienced during that process. I was poured into by my physical therapist, he left no stone unturned. He did everything in his power to encourage me in my power.
•⁣⁣⁣
That rehab process lit a fire in me, gave me a ROAR, in pursuit of a greater dream, a greater vision.
•⁣⁣⁣
So in 2018, I had enough of keeping it quiet. I left Delaware for Southern California in pursuit of that ROAR inside of me. And between you and me, that ROAR inside of me WILL raise the expectations in healthcare; already has in a short 2 years.
•⁣⁣⁣
But don’t hear me the wrong way.
•⁣⁣⁣
We all have a dream. A dream fueled by something deeper. Something only we can explain. We must not let that ROAR go quiet. We must share it. With others. We must encourage others in their ROAR. We must work together. There will be circumstances, deterrents, all normal things along the journey. Fueled by that burning deep desire, we WILL win.
•⁣⁣⁣
We must find our ROAR. Keep our fire burning. Positively charge our environments through with energy, passion, and next level vision.

BE THE BEST…
•⁣⁣⁣
In grad school and undergrad, I would come home from the PA mountains every summer to spend my summer days sitting stand as a lifeguard. At night, I would switch over to the hospitality industry and would I would work in a local restaurant. In these two, distinct jobs I wore a lot of different hats which at times, could be a lot to handle. The responsibilities I had as a Lieutenant on the beach, which included being responsible for a half mile of beach and countless tourists, for example, was very different from fulfilling drink food and drink orders as a server.
•⁣⁣⁣
But I knew, even when I felt like I had a lot on my plate, that I could only be the best version of myself.
•⁣⁣⁣
When the “days-in-a-row” started to accumulate and when I grew challenged in the face of what I had taken on, I still reminded myself of this- regardless of the circumstances there are certain things I can control. I could control my attitude, my consistency in who I was around different people, and how hard I worked.
•⁣⁣⁣
And that’s all we need to ask of ourselves.
•⁣⁣⁣
Where is our focus?
•⁣⁣⁣
Where is our attitude?
•⁣⁣⁣
Where is our attention?
•⁣⁣⁣
Is it aligning with that version of ourselves producing what we want?
•⁣⁣⁣
Are we standing in the face of our obstacles in a way that our future self would be thankful for?
•⁣⁣⁣
If there are some distractions, some answers we’re unsure of, there can be a lot of grace in that place too. We don’t need to be hard on ourselves; sometimes we’re in a season of transition and adjustment. Seasons are temporary but the way we show up everyday should be constant and should be and be the best version of ourselves. Every. Single. Day. @ Carlsbad, California

In rehab, we need to pay attention to who and what we believe.
•⁣⁣⁣
Some truths...
•⁣⁣⁣
The human body is highly adaptable and resilient in the face of new stresses and challenges.
•⁣⁣⁣
A prevalent medical narrative tells us that we are broken and need to be “fixed”. This is not always the case.
•⁣⁣⁣
Under the right direction, biological systems are capable of overcoming and adapting. We just need to give them the opportunity.

Been feeling like a long few weeks out of the water with this ankle injury.
•⁣⁣⁣
Perspective from working with patients tells me it could always be longer.
•⁣⁣⁣
Gratitude practices have me reflecting on what I AM able to do.
•⁣⁣⁣
But that burning desire inside to spend time below sea-level, still there.
•⁣⁣⁣
Stay frothy my friends. We all have that burning desire, for that “one thing”, amidst our own processes.
•⁣⁣⁣
For me? Will be back in Ol’ Mother 🌊 here real soon.

Feeling Discontent? - You Aren’t Done Yet.
•⁣⁣⁣
On a daily basis, I see a lot of reoccurring patterns with my patients. These patterns have shown me how applicable what I practice in PT is to everyday life.
•⁣⁣⁣
One of these patterns I have noticed comes from the conversations I have with clients with regards to how they view their own progress. Most of these people usually view their past lives as a reference point, meaning their current state leaves much to be desired. Often times they feel like they are far from where they hope to be, which might be true, but leaves them with a deep feeling of discontent which can sometimes discourage them.
•⁣⁣⁣
As an athlete, I’ve felt this before too, in my own rehab process while I recovered from surgery and was unable to play lacrosse for a year. It was tough and where I was at that point in the process seemed insanely far from where I ‘used to be’.
•⁣⁣⁣
But was I truly “lacking” or was I exactly at the point in the process I needed to be? During times like this we’re working towards something-our recovery- and that takes work. We’re sharpening our sword, we’re becoming a better version of ourselves, which is a challenge. That challenge makes us better equipped to be better and to do better.
•⁣⁣⁣
Occasional discontent is inevitable but when it does arise, we need to remind ourselves that if we’re working towards something. We’re deep in the process. If we’re deep in process we have a long way to go. We are done yet. We cannot allow ourselves to get stuck in a state of discontentment that hinders that progress.
•⁣⁣
Even in discontent, we’re sitting exactly where we need to be to grow and if we let ourselves grow, we will end up exactly where we hope to be.

SHOOT FOR THE MOON- Thoughts on Work-Life Balance.
•⁣⁣⁣
About 2 years ago, I moved out to California in pursuit of the vision that I felt God had laid on my heart: To serve athletes, high performers, and those looking for a higher level of accountability in regards to their health and wellness.
•⁣⁣⁣
This was absolutely a big jump from my prior choices within the profession and while I was ready for the challenge, I was honestly searching for balance. I wanted to find a way to work while also creating and allocating time and energy to lifestyle and healthy relationships with friends, family, and peers.
•⁣⁣⁣
I wasn’t sure how to achieve this balance though. In my first few months out west, I juggled part-time positions and was trying my best to hang on to my precious resource of time. I decided to reach out to people who, in my mind, had done something similar and as a result, endured some similar challenges. They provided some excellent guidance regarding this and here’s what I have learned…
•⁣⁣⁣
When we search for ‘balance’, we will always feel a discontentment because there will be a tension that seems to destabilize us, even in places that seem to be stable.
•⁣⁣⁣
For me, there was always an opportunity to spend more hours managing my client caseload, which would pull me away from time spent on the skills in my business and therefore, would pull me away from obtaining and achieving balance.
•⁣⁣⁣
When we search for balance we’re also pushing our limits in order to level up and be more effective. For this reason, we come to terms with the existence a ‘lack of balance’, but are we really “lacking balance”? We need to embrace this lifestyle of being uncomfortable and not give up on achieving balance-whatever that means for us-but we also need to understand that we can thrive ‘in tension’, in process. ✊🏻

Habit Overflow
•⁣⁣⁣
Been revamping some morning habits lately as I’m learning certain ones are crucial for me being in the headspace I need to execute the day.
•⁣⁣⁣
A few of the more essential ones for me…
•⁣⁣⁣
Two Glasses of water each morning, after waking, before anything else (w Himalayan sea salt and lemon for bonus), to help regulate, hydrate after a night of sleep.
•⁣⁣⁣
Prayer, Personal Development and reading right after. This allows me to filter through distracting thoughts, set my intentions on the day so I maintain consistency each day for my patient’s/clients.
•⁣⁣⁣
Then it’s breathwork and training. I hit breathwork from the app, which I’ve been trying to use more consistently (ankle injury has made it easier to sit still lol). Breathwork is pretty meditative, helps focus, and works proper breath control, which I’ve noticed I can use throughout the day to slow things down, keep decisions lucid.
•⁣⁣⁣
Overall, my opinion is this on habits: Habits help guarantee ex*****on and success, because they overflow into everything we do.
•⁣⁣⁣
We deserve to give ourselves this opportunity each day, but it takes action. Action to fill that cup. Action to be consistent in performing these habits on days we don’t feel up for it.

STAY HUNGRY•⁣⁣⁣Had an opportunity last week to train a heavier bench press. Been training lighter weight, higher volume these past 4-5 months, so it for sure, was an opportunity to see how training has been going.
•⁣⁣⁣
I love using test-retest. Using old benchmarks from a test, then retesting to see how things measure up.
•⁣⁣⁣
For me, it’s the gold standard for keeping myself fired up with training. I’m able to take my old results, my new scores, then have an honest conversation with myself about my goals, the direction things need to go to get there.
•⁣⁣⁣
See, I believe that intrinsic factors and internal drivers are the biggest at play to any sort of long-term buy-in or motivation.
•⁣⁣⁣
And we often set ourselves up for failure at the gate, by using extrinsic factors, external motivators, or inappropriate comparisons.
•⁣⁣⁣
And for any one of us who is struggling with this…
•⁣⁣⁣
When working towards our health goals, they are OUR goals.
•⁣⁣⁣
When working towards our own physical wellbeing, the only comparison we should experience is with ourselves and how WE measure up with our best.
•⁣⁣⁣
When staying motivated in the hunt, we need to have relentless focus, locked-in on our own vision, our own measurements of progress.

Helps having a workout partner too
•⁣⁣⁣
Laser focus this week everyone. STAY HUNGRY

Words-play
•⁣⁣⁣
Is what we say, what is received on the other end?
•⁣⁣⁣
I often have this thought working with clients and I believe it’s important no matter who we’re communicating with.
•⁣⁣⁣
When we have an intention of speaking to someone, it’s probably to communicate something intentional.
•⁣⁣⁣
Words can inhibit or encourage.
•⁣⁣⁣
Verbal direction can take-away, or empower.
•⁣⁣⁣
And...
•⁣⁣⁣
Words can be delivered one intent and received with another.
•⁣⁣⁣
Our words, leave lasting impact.
•⁣⁣⁣
Let’s choose with wisdom.
