Please remember to file your income taxes if you are eligible for the Missouri Property Tax Credit.
Seniors / 100% Veterans / folks who are disabled.
If you are a qualifying senior citizen (65) or a 100% disabled individual, make sure you also submit the Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim form with your tax return. This credit helps offset a portion of the real estate taxes or rent you paid during the year.
• Homeowners who owned and occupied their home may qualify for up to $1,100.
• Renters may qualify for up to $750.
• The actual credit amount is based on the amount of real estate taxes or rent paid and total household income (both taxable and nontaxable).
Income thresholds to qualify:
• Homeowners: $30,000 or less (single) or $34,000 or less (married filing combined)
• Renters / Part-year owners: $27,200 or less (single) or $29,200 or less (married filing combined)
Important for veterans:
If you are a 100% service-connected disabled veteran, your VA disability payments are NOT counted toward the income limits when determining eligibility. This is a very important detail that can allow many disabled veterans to qualify even if their VA disability income would otherwise place them over the threshold.
Also note: renters who live in facilities that do not pay property taxes are not eligible for this credit.
