The Quiet Path: A Silent Retreat

It's our 10 year Anniversary! Celebrate a decade of community, growth, and practice with us in sacred silence. This special retreat offers a weekend (OR one day, if you can only join us for half of the retreat)of reflection, gentle yoga, meditation, breathwork, and mindful rest—all held in the quiet beauty of shared stillness. Come reconnect with yourself, honor the journey, and mark this meaningful milestone with presence and peace.

Happy August! Our pose of the month is Vrksasana, or Tree. This pose promotes a sense of grounding, can enhance focus and concentration and cultivate inner strength and resilience. It also helps with improving balance and stability, strengthen feet and legs and improve posture.

1. Start in Mountain Pose (Tadasana):
Stand tall with feet hip-width or together, grounding through all four corners of your feet. Engage your thighs, lift the chest gently, and soften your shoulders down and back. Bring your hands to your heart in prayer (Anjali Mudra) to center.

2. Shift your weight:
Slowly shift your weight into your left foot, rooting down firmly. Keep the left leg strong, with a slight micro-bend in the knee (not locked).

3. Lift and place the right foot:
Bend your right knee, and turn it out to the side. Place the sole of your right foot on your left ankle or calf or above the knee on the inner thigh (avoid placing the foot on the knee joint).

4. Find your balance:
Engage your core and steady your gaze (drishti) on a still point in front of you. Lengthen through the crown of your head.

5. Add the arms (optional):
Keep palms at heart center, or reach your arms overhead with palms facing each other or touching—like tree branches extending toward the sky.

6. Breathe and hold:
Take 3–6 slow, steady breaths. Imagine yourself rooted like a tree—strong, balanced, and calm.

7. Release gently:
Lower your right foot back to the ground with control. Return to Mountain Pose and pause to feel the effects. Repeat on the opposite side.

Tips:
If balancing is challenging, practice near a wall or with a chair nearby. Focus more on the feeling of grounding and length than how high the foot goes. Let your breath support your balance—steady breath, steady body.

Join us to strengthen and stretch out those achy muscles of the posterior side of your body. We use the wall as a wonderful "prop" to deepen our practice and to provide stability. Join us for this fun and feel-good class. All experience levels welcome!

We are excited to welcome Whitney, our newest Coop member, as he leads a new series, Introduction to Buddhist Teachings and Meditation Wednesday nights this Fall. We hope you’ll join us for a course preview for an opportunity to meet Whitney, sample the course content and meditations, and ask questions.

The Preview is free, but we ask that you register by Monday, September 8. Optional $10 donations will be gladly accepted during registration to support Food Gatherers, the largest anti-hunger program in Washtenaw County.
