The home I grew up in in Hurst was haunted. As long as I can remember it was haunted. I believe the house itself was haunted and I believe there were "things" that were attached to me from about the time I was 2 yrs. old. As much as I can remember anyway. We moved into this brick home when I was 5 yrs old. I moved away and got married and 13 yrs later I moved back with my children and my parents retired to their lake lot. My children experienced a lot in that house and still have experiences. That's why I believe it was always more than the house that was haunted. I'll tell you some of those stories later.
We had 3 dogs as a part of our family. I tell you this because what happened to me affected them as well. I had never seen them act the way they did that night. One of my 3 dogs was a pit bull mix, very loving and very protective. On that night, she was scared.
I've always been one to take a while to wind down and rarely went to sleep before midnight. My kids were in bed by 9. So from 9 till midnight I could relax, read a book, watch a movie or whatever to try to get myself to sleep. I would love to say it was a stormy night with thunder and lightening but ghosts dont care about the weather. They dont care how wealthy or poor you are. They dont care if its day or night. If they want to appear........they will.
On this particular night I went to sleep and probably sometime around 2 or 3 (I'm not sure, but I was in a deep sleep), I heard the loudest sound I had ever heard. I heard glass shatter. The only thing I can equate the sound too is S.W.A.T using their door buster to get into a home. Yeah, it really was that loud. I just knew glass was everywhere.
My dogs all sat up on the bed and they started growling (a low soft growl) and then everything got silent. Funny thing is my dogs didnt move though. They didnt go running after the boogeyman. They just sat on my bed staring at the bedroom door. Of course I sat straight up in bed and was terrified. The hair on the back of my neck stood up and goosebumps covered my arms.
I was holding my breath......listening.....thinking I would hear someone coming down the hall, but nothing. Did it wake my children? I didnt hear them calling out for me. I expected screams for mommy and got none.
I knew this house with my eyes closed. After all, most of my life was spent there. Going down the hall you could turn right for the front door, turn left for the main living room or go straight into the kitchen but the walls were off a little. If you didnt know the layout you could get hurt running in the dark.
My dogs are still up and my pit would growl, a low quiet growl but she was not going after this noise.
My heart was still racing and I realized I was still holding my breath, listening.....just listening.
I've always slept with a butcher knife hidden and an aluminum bat near the bed which (for some odd reason) I moved to a different spot every couple of days. Still do.
I reached for the bat and quietly got out of bed. My dogs were sitting this one out. Nice to know I'm on my own with this. In a batters stance I crept over to my bedroom door. And. Listened. I could see into my kids room and they seemed to be sound asleep. I stepped out into the hall and made my way slowly down the hall in the dark. At the end of the hall I stopped. I walked through the kitchen to the other door that leads into the other end of the large living area. Once you're at this door you are looking at the backdoor. I just knew I was going to see a mess but from what I didnt know. I stopped when I got close to that kitchen doorway and listened. Nothing. Not. One. Sound. I looked around the door and there was nothing. I reached over and hit the light switch. My heart started to slow down and after a couple of deep breaths I was breathing normal again. I examined everything. Nothing broken. Nothing out of place. Nothing had fallen off the wall. I went through turning all the lights on. Checking doors and windows all through the house and found no signs of break in. Once the lights came on my dogs started to come out of the room and walk around sniffing and looking at me like they knew..........
I got no sleep the rest of that night. I think I even left a few lights on.
When I got up the next morning I went through the house again. Everything in its place.
If someone ever asks me if I hear things that go bump in the night, I yell them no. I hear things that go boom in the night.
Have you ever experienced anything like this?
Do your animals react to things that arent there? Do you hear or see things that no one in the same room or house does?
