We are deeply grieved to announce the passing of a member of the Eyewear Concepts family. Victoria “Kiki” Haich passed away Tuesday, December 16.

Kiki had been with Eyewear Concepts for over 13 years, helping behind the scenes to keep our office clean and presentable. She was an ever-positive light in our office and loved conversing with our staff about their lives, families, hobbies, and especially pets, particularly their cats. She was a proud cat parent to two of her own and loved to see pictures and videos of other people’s pets. Kiki tried to convince others that they could take on another cat anytime she befriended a stray, which was frequent. She regularly shared magazines, articles, books, and recipes she found interesting and left them in our breakroom for all to enjoy.
She was a lover of sweets, crafts, animals, and people. She spent many years also working at Wendy’s and Cash Wise. She often came with coupons for frostys and would put in a word to the bakery at Cash Wise of what the Eyewear Concept staff wanted to see in the bakery window. She always saw the good in people, always had a kind word to share, and was a generous soul.

Her daughter Deidra has been with Eyewear Concepts for 12 years. Both Deidra and Kiki have been invaluable to our team and truly loved by Eyewear Concepts. Our hearts are with Kiki and Deidra’s family in this very difficult time.

Our office will be closed Monday, December 22 from 9:30 am – 12 pm so our staff can attend services.

Happy first day of ❄Winter❄

Statistically, sun wear usage decreases during the winter months. However, our eyes need UV protection all year round! Here are 4 reasons you might not want to pack your sunglasses away with your sandals.

❄1. Snow Reflects UV
When the sun strikes snow, up to 85% can be reflected. This makes any outdoor winter activities hard on unprotected eyes. Looking for sunglasses with UV protection and polarization can help cut glare and fight off harmful rays from the sun.

❄2. The Sun Is Lower In The Sky
When the sun is lower in the sky during the winter months, that allows more time for it to be in your direct lines of sight. Low sun also produces low reflection which leads to all that extra glare off snow and ice.

❄3. Cold Weather Causes Eye Strain
Wind, dryness, and bright snow all cause strain on the eyes. The natural response to all of these is to squint, which limits your view. Sunglasses can help not only against the brightness but also offer some protection against windy North Dakota conditions.

❄4. Thin Clouds
Clouds offer little filtration of UV rays during the summer but even less so during the winter when clouds are more likely to be thin and wispy.

Sunglasses can help protect your eyes from diseases like cataracts, macular degeneration, and cancer.
❄Nearly half of all Americans age 80+ either have cataracts or have already had cataract surgery.
❄It is estimated that 200 million people world wide have macular degeneration and that number is expected to rise to 300 million by 2040.
❄Skin cancers on or around the eyes account for about 10% of all skin cancers.
And it's not just your eyes that need protecting but your children's' eyes as well! The WHO reports a significant portion of all UV damage done to our eyes happens before age 18.

So this winter, make sure your sunglasses are next to your hat and gloves and maybe put a pair under the tree for that special someone. (Eyewear Concepts has gift cards!)

If you’re still wondering what to ask Santa for, can we suggest frames by Etnia Barcelona? While these would be good all year round, the blue gives some snowy vibes. Not into winter? These also come in Black Yellow, Green Pink, and Havana Orange.

The last few weeks we’ve seen women’s frames so let’s switch it up to the men’s side.
These stylish frames are part of Etnia Barcelona’s vintage collection. Featuring Brown Havana with blue detailing on the ends they also come in Havana Black, Green, and Black.
