If you watched Jillian's Hopeful Connection this week, you heard that the team took a road trip this week to attend the North Dakota Family Alliance Pro Life Conference.

Our team connected with pro-life leaders all over the state, including someone you might recognize, former Executive Director, Katie Vidmar, who spoke about the importance of knowing what your body communicates to you! While many conversations centered directly around the need in unintended pregnancies met by the very first services offered at Connect, it was so encouraging to have conversations about the wider pro-life movement, including life-affirming care for women and their families as well as the current state of adoption by Jeannie Nasers from Christian Adoption Services.

While the clinic was closed for the day, the team was hard at work! From learning and networking to team building and praying, your care team is so excited to bring what we learned back to Dickinson and continue to build partnerships with the many pro-life leaders and organizations across North Dakota!

The encouragement of your support is providing hope throughout all of North Dakota!

January is National Mentoring Month! To speak on the importance of mentorship and its effects on our lives, Madison our Connect Cares Coordinator shares a reflection on why mentorship is an important aspect of holistic health!

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." We’ve all heard this saying. I most often heard it when I was little and my sisters wouldn’t leave me alone.

“Mom, she won’t stop copying me!”

“She just wants to be like you. Try to include her,” She would reply.

After having a daughter of my own, I believe this saying to be true more now than ever. She imitates me feeding our son a bottle and cooking supper in her miniature kitchen. When I ask her what she wants to be when she grows up, my 3 year old answers, “a mommy.” First off, how precious is that? Second, we are constantly affected by the people around us. That could be in positive ways that we want to mimic or negative ways that make us choose to not behave that way. It is of the utmost importance that we surround ourselves with people of good character that affect us in a positive way.

It is pivotal that we find others to model ourselves after. Mentorship: This is not a step-by-step list of how to be someone else. It is molding yourself at your core into someone you can be proud of.

Like "iron sharpens iron" (Proverbs 27:17), having people of integrity in your life that can guide you will move you closer to your optimal self.

This week, Rachael is sharing all about Cervical Health Awareness Month; a reminder that God calls us to care for the bodies He has entrusted to us. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, and early detection is a gift made possible through modern medicine.

HPV causes over 90% of cervical cancers, and most people will encounter HPV at some point without knowing it. HPV can also lead to vaginal, vulvar, a**l, pe**le, and certain throat cancers, which is why screening and prevention matter.

Pap and HPV testing detect early cell changes long before they become cancer. An abnormal Pap does not mean cancer; it often reflects temporary changes or an HPV infection your body may clear. Follow-up is protection, not a diagnosis.

Screening guidelines:

- Start Pap testing at age 21, every 3 years if normal.
- Ages 30–65: Pap every 3 years or Pap + HPV co-testing every 5 years.
- After 65, screening may stop if prior testing has been adequate and risk is low.

The HPV vaccine is another tool God has provided through scientific progress. It protects against nine cancer-causing HPV strains and is recommended for ages 9–26, with possible benefit up to age 45 depending on risk. It is safe, effective, and designed to prevent cancer.

Most cervical changes have no symptoms. Seek care for bleeding after in*******se, irregular bleeding, pelvic pain, or unusual discharge. Remember that a Pap smear is different from a pelvic exam. Ask your provider which you are due for.

Caring for our bodies is one way we honor God; avoid smoking, manage stress, sleep well, stay hydrated, and nourish yourself with wholesome foods. Your cervical health matters. Make time for your screening and care for your body with wisdom and intention!

As we wrapped up the year and headed into the holiday break, the Nurture team stayed busy connecting, educating, and supporting our community in meaningful ways. One highlight was our outreach education visit to Dickinson High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, where we met with students interested in future careers in healthcare.

We were graciously welcomed by Mrs.Sadowsky, Mrs.Guillaume, and Mrs.Silbernagle, who opened their classrooms for conversation and learning. Brittni and Chelsey shared about Connect and our roles at the clinic, while also leading discussions on risk avoidance, healthy relationships, consent, and personal boundaries.

This visit was especially meaningful as it marked Brittni’s first presentation!! Reflecting on the experience, Brittni shared: "I love going into classrooms to teach students about their bodies and the importance of understanding their sexual health. I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning."

Thank you to the educators who closed out the year in a meaningful way — investing in education, building community partnerships, and empowering students with knowledge!

The Middle School and High School students at Hope Christian Academy have a leadership program where students get separated into houses. Students hold meetings where they have voted offices within in their houses. The houses then have fun activities throughout the year to earn points towards their house, and at the end of the year, there is a winning house. One of their projects at Christmas time is a competitive bake sale after the Hope Christmas program. Each house votes and selects a charity they think would benefit from the profits made at the Bakesale. This year, two of the houses picked Connect Medical Clinic as their benefactor! Thank you to the Carbo and Flumen houses for choosing to support Connect, and thank you to all who bought delicious treats, which resulted in a generous donation to the clinic and points towards each of their houses!

Connect Medical Clinic is pleased to announce the addition of a LEEP machine (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure) to its Holistic Women’s Health Program.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Dickinson Area Community Foundation (DACF), Connect Medical can now offer in-house treatment for cervical abnormalities and pre-cancerous lesions. This procedure plays a critical role in preventing cervical cancer and supporting long-term reproductive health. Because of the grant from DACF, women may access comprehensive, dignity-centered care from providers they know and trust.

The LEEP’s arrival is timely as January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Globally, cervical cancer remains one of the leading cancers affecting women. In the United States, approximately 13,000 women are diagnosed each year, and 4,000–4,300 die from the disease. Yet cervical cancer is highly preventable with routine screening. Regular Pap tests and well-woman exams—particularly for women ages 35–64, who are most commonly diagnosed—save lives.

The LEEP procedure will be offered by Dr. Thomas Arnold, MD, OBGYN, and Rachael Marshall, FNP-C—experts in women’s health who are deeply committed to personalized, compassionate care. This expanded service is especially meaningful for patients who are uninsured, on Medicaid, Spanish-speaking, or traveling from rural communities across western North Dakota.
