If you live in this community, you know this dog.
You’ve seen the posts.
You’ve made the calls.
You’ve slowed down in traffic, hoping she’d be okay.
You’ve worried — quietly or out loud — every time another sighting came in.
She became our dog long before she was ever safe.
For weeks, we chased her.
Tried to trap her.
Asked for help.
Patrolled for her every single day.
Our Animal Control Officers never gave up — not after failed attempts, not after sleepless nights, and not after the days they had to make the hardest call of all: backing off because traffic was too heavy and pushing would have put her life at risk. That wasn’t quitting. That was determination guided by compassion.
And then today… we got her.
With all the tools animal control has to catch dogs — traps, equipment, experience —
what we truly needed was a child.
These incredible kids had been playing with her in a field for weeks. We watched her frolic with them — happy, free, trusting in a way she never could with adults. To her, they were safe.
With calm voices and gentle hands, a little girl and a little boy were able to put a leash on her.
Walking across that field was heartbreaking.
She went from the time of her life with the kids… to fear when the big humans approached.
But our officers didn’t rush.
They didn’t force.
They followed the lead of trust.
The kids stayed with her, talking softly, reassuring her. Our team went into the field and sat with her, letting her breathe, letting her settle — meeting fear with patience instead of pressure.
Only then did we carefully carry her to safety.
After so many unsuccessful attempts…
so many sleepless nights…
so many daily worries…
There were tears. A lot of them.
Our dear friend in rescue, Collen, has been with us every step of this journey, and we were so grateful she was there to help deliver her to safety.
Her name is Bree — named after the little girl who saved her.
This is what animal control looks like when an entire community stands behind it.
This is what determination looks like.
This is what never giving up looks like.
She is safe tonight.
And she will be safe forever now.
Thank you to everyone who called in sightings, shared posts, and prayed for her.
This village showed up — and because of that, Bree is finally home. 🐾💙
