What if the thing you’ve been avoiding… is the thing that sets you free?
James Havel, LCDC, talking about truth and excuses in recovery.

04/28/2026

In this video, James Havel talks about wood that was once discarded and burned—and how it was brought back to life.
During that same time, James was battling cancer, and Susan had broken her leg. In the middle of all of it—taking care of her and building this table—something changed.
What he was bringing back to life… was also bringing him back to life.
There’s a deeper truth in that.
The Carpenter brings all of us back to life.
And that’s what we believe in at Bay Area Recovery Center—
helping people come back to life.

The Spring 2026 Alcothon hosted by New Hope Women’s Center is taking place May 1st–3rd. This is not an event affiliated with us—we simply want to help support and highlight opportunities in the recovery community.
If you’re looking for connection, speakers, and fellowship, this is a great opportunity to be around others walking the same path.

A lot of people hesitate to get help because they’re worried about work, insurance, and what happens if they step away.
In this video, Blake breaks down:
• What FMLA is
• Who qualifies
• Difference between FMLA and Short-Term Disability
You don’t have to figure this out on your own.

This wood is over 140 years old. Burnt. Discarded. Left to be thrown away. James Havel saw something different. He took what was overlooked and gave it new life. Years of buildup—layers of what others thought it should be—had to be stripped away for it to be renewed for its true purpose.
Now it sits in our outpatient office, used every day.
What was once considered waste… now serves a purpose.
Recovery looks a lot like this. People come in feeling broken, written off, or too far gone.
But with the right help, something changes.
And what once felt lost transforms into a new way of living.
