Researchers found that vitamin D deficiencies increase the risk of complications for the flu and COVID-19. The authors of the review recommend 10,000 IU/dL of vitamin D during the initial phase of the infection followed by 5,000 IU/dL after a few weeks with a goal to achieve 40 – 60 ng/mL 25(OH)D.

A 2021 paper published in the Economics and Human Biology has found that sunlight, which increases vitamin D production and vitamin D levels, may reduce the risk of the flu (15). Researchers found that the relationship between sunlight and influenza respiratory infections was one of the main driving factors during the H1N1 epidemic in 2009.

Did you know leafy greens are some of the most nutrient-dense foods?

That’s right. They’re loaded with disease-fighting nutrients and antioxidants—like vitamins C, A and K—along with folate, fiber and more. Because leafy greens are packed with nutrients but are very low in calories, they have loads of benefits. ⬇️

🌿 Eating greens like spinach or turnip greens can boost your intake of anti-inflammatory compounds along with potassium, which can help support your heart health.

🌿 Most leafy greens contain high amounts of antioxidants called lutein and zeaxanthin as well as beta-carotene and vitamin C, which are known to help protect the eyes.

🌿 Studies have even found that eating at least one serving each day of leafy greens can help slow cognitive decline.

One way I include leafy greens into my daily diet is by adding kale or spinach (sometimes both!) into my morning smoothie. How do you include leafy greens into your daily diet? Let me know in the comments!

Eating enough protein is not only essential to building healthy muscle, but it's a necessary part of your daily diet. Humans can’t survive without all nine essential amino acids. Protein is essential to building bones, and body tissues, such as muscles, but protein does much more than that. Protein participates in practically every process of a cell. It plays a part in metabolic reactions, immune response, protein provides a source of energy, assists in cellular repair, form blood cells, and more. Be sure you are eating high-quality protein in your diet, at least three times per day, 20-35 grams per meal.

You may have heard about “protein timing,” — but if you haven’t it refers to the distribution of protein throughout the day, and before/after training sessions for optimal muscle protein synthesis (the process by which cells make proteins). There are different studies and philosophies on how...
