I’ve owned a gym for close to 20 years, starting with one in Slovenia. Before that I went to the gym from age 13 (my Mom opened a small one as her second job after she would get done working at the bank).

The gym and basketball legitimately saved my life (I was also a knucklehead kid heavily involved with crime).

I say that to say that the people around me were pivotal in my change.

Making the gym a place where people feel part of the tribe, supported, encouraged, is absolutely key and more important than the details of training (and this comes from a training geek!).

If we have experience with fitness it’s our duty to become a lighthouse for others and help them, uplift them, encourage them, so that they can be consistent, transform, and then be that for someone else.

I see way too much arguing about what’s right and wrong, people making fun of folks doing “dumb stuff” that are just starting off. That’s NOT encouraging and it can many times be the reason people don’t continue because they don’t feel safe.

Don’t be that person, be a true coach, and help someone believe they can do it and encourage them.

When you walk into you’ll find every age group, fitness level, walk of life, ethnicity, you can imagine, and everyone support everyone else. It’s a beautiful thing.

Let’s work hard to make all gyms like this so that we can create a wave of change.

🍴 Food for Thought Thursday🍴

The habit that makes healthy eating so much easier:
Batch Cooking / Food Prepping

Every time I take a little time to prep food for the week, I feel so much better — not just physically from eating good food, but mentally from knowing I made a solid choice for myself.

Having healthy meals ready makes it so much easier to stay consistent and not rely on willpower when life gets busy.

Here’s what works for me (when I actually do it!):

1️⃣ I keep a “menu” of my favorite quality foods and their nutritional breakdown (prioritizing protein of course).
2️⃣ I set aside a little time each week to prep — admittedly, not my favorite thing to do, but always worth it.
3️⃣ I portion everything out so it’s grab-and-go, which makes hitting my calorie and protein goals effortless.

💡 Tip: I bought my own color-coded containers that no one dares to touch! 🙅‍♀️

It’s a small investment of time for a big return in energy, confidence, and consistency. 💜

Why Real. Simple. Fitness.?

I believe that physical fitness, along with good, real food are two aspects of self care that will lead to a healthier version of yourself, both physically and mentally. You will notice your daily chores getting easier as you become stronger, and your recreation becoming more enjoyable as you increase your endurance. Your mind will be rewarded with clarity and focus and you will feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment as you progress in your training. I continue to experience these things in my own life and look forward to working with you so that you do too.
