The Dix Hills Fire Department was honored to host our friend New York Assemblyman Steve Stern at Thursday's press conference. Since his days as a county legislator, Stern has been strongly devoted to the first responders of our communities. Assemblyman Stern secured state grant funding which our department used to upgrade our communications systems, replace bailout equipment, and purchase a state-of-the-art rehab unit. The rehab unit is a truck responding to major fires or emergencies equipped for addressing the well-being of firefighters and first responders at the scene of local emergencies.
This week, Assemblyman Stern and Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine announced critical initiatives in the state's legislative and funding package. These initiatives address firefighter mental health, the equipment needed to keep our communities safe, the financial security of our local heroes, and the recruitment and retention of our volunteers. The legislative package provides for our communities and first responders in Dix Hills and across the state.
The Board of Fire Commissioners, the Chief's Office, and the members of the Dix Hills Fire Department thank Assemblyman Stern for his unwavering support for the members who serve the community 365 days a year.
Commissioners David Winthrop, Steve Weisbrot, and I were present for the news.
