Be prepared to protect yourself from the sun this holiday weekend.

Linked below is an educational video about skin cancer and sun protection I created in collaboration with KSB Community Wellness. It’s comprehensive, so I apologize that it’s a bit long winded. Discussion about sun protection and sunscreen starts at 7:20.

In case you don’t have time to view it, here’s a summary:

1. Use SPF 30 or greater
2. The most effective sunscreen ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
3. If your sunscreen does not have zinc or titanium it may take 20-30 minutes to become effective, so apply before going outdoors.
4. Reapply frequently if you’re in and out of water or sweating profusely.
5. Use enough. 1 ounce or a shot glass full is what the average sized adult needs for their entire body.
