Phenix Counseling

Phenix Counseling A community of sojourners pursuing a holistically healthy lifestyle who are interested in digging deeper emotionally and relationally. We offer hope.

Phenix exists to provide that rare sacred space where people can completely deconstruct and build a self/life which reflects who they were truly created to be! We challenge people to risk vulnerability with someone who has been there. We know there are individuals out there who are tired of living at the surface. They have a desire to dig deeper and they are willing to invest the time and resources in the journey. We're ready to lead the way.

A key component of the Phenix Counseling therapy model is the attention to learning how to grieve. Not only do we have a difficult time in our culture knowing how to move through the death of a loved one, we are fairly clueless when it comes to recognizing and recovering from the many losses we experience in life: resources, locations, relationships, jobs, traumas, etc.

This day of awareness is an opportunity to acknowledge that grief is an appropriate reaction to any loss and that there are resources available for facing and growing through grief! Grief is not something to be afraid of or to avoid.

Grief is the evidence of our ability to connect and care. Reach out if you would like to learn more about the transformative growth available when we face our grief!

A previous surgeon general stated that the greatest health crisis in the USA is loneliness! The feeling of disconnection from others, that we have no one we can truly rely on, creates stress on the body whether we recognize it or not. Loneliness has strong correlations with many health problems, including depression, dementia and heart disease to name a few!

➡️ If you have struggled to build healthy friendships, message us for next steps including books, podcasts or info to start your therapy journey.

As a parent, take this day to tally up your parenting wins from the last year. So often, our brains focus on our mess ups and we never truly acknowledge what we do well.

What we pay attention to, increases so it is REALLY important that we pay attention to the positives in our parenting journey. Go ahead and choose one thing you would like to learn as a parent and set specific goals for the coming year but be sure to get out and CELEBRATE what is already going well. 👋🏻

Trauma work is some of the most courageous and demanding inner work a person can do.
It requires honesty, vulnerability, and a willingness to sit with discomfort that most will never see or fully understand.

If you’re doing the work—whether in therapy, reflection, or recovery remember this: you’ve already done the hardest part by choosing to engage. That first step takes immense strength.

Keep going. Progress isn’t always visible, but every step matters.

If your work comes before self care and other relationships, if you feel guilty when you’re not working, if the activities that bring you joy are always on the back burner, if fatigue, insomnia and headaches are regular companions, if your primary emotions are stress and anxiety - it’s time to reach out.

Make an appointment with your primary care physician, a therapist, or contact that acquaintance who seems to enjoy harmony between work and personal life to ask for help!

After 246 years of enslavement and 99 years of segregation which assigned the dregs of all resources to the Black community, President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 on this day which banned segregation and employment discrimination!

The past 61 years have been challenging and the train seems to regress backwards sometimes but this is still a day to celebrate.  Let us also remember that 345 years of open and active oppression is not erased in just decades, especially when equality efforts are not engaged with the same energy as the oppression was.

The mental health impact of those years is still very fresh in the African American community today, especially as the call these days to turn back the clock is loud.  Let that sink in and may we consider what our part is in turning the tide toward humanity, dignity, and restoration.

When’s the last time you planned a picnic? International Picnic Day is coming up...a perfect excuse to bring back this fun! Think about a location with shade and connection to nature. Plan a portable meal, choose a picnic basket, pack the bug spray and invite that friend you’ve been saying you need to get together with.

If you are traveling, picnics are a great way to immerse in your destination. The people watching is on point :) Your mental and emotional health will thank you and who knows, maybe this will become an annual tradition!

Global day of parenting yesterday was a reminder that parenting is the most important and most difficult job we will ever have. It has become even more difficult with the loss of communal support and the toxicity of social media. If you are struggling, please know that you are not alone and the challenges are REAL!

We want to celebrate parents and encourage you to find the resources - mentors, coaches, therapists, podcasts, books, etc. that will feed your soul and teach you what your family of origin did not. Remember too....there is no such thing as a perfect parent! Your goal is NOT perfection, it is connection and the skills to repair when you make mistakes. That friends, is the mission. 🙌🏻
