🚨 Move Over. Slow Down. Save Lives. 🚨

In Minnesota, moving over is a simple yet powerful way to show respect for those who serve and protect our communities.

When you see flashing lights, you are approaching someone’s office. Those lights mean someone’s life may be at risk, and responders are working hard to help. Just like anyone else, law enforcement, paramedics, firefighters, and tow operators deserve a safe place to do their jobs.

🚑 Lives Behind the Sirens

The Ted Foss Move Over Law is named in honor of State Patrol Corporal Ted Foss, who was tragically killed in 2000 after being struck by a passing vehicle during a traffic stop.

Here’s what you need to remember:

➡️ Move Over:
On roads with two or more lanes in the same direction, move over one full lane for emergency vehicles, law enforcement, tow trucks, road crews, and construction workers.

➡️ Slow Down:
If you can’t safely move over, slow down and pass with caution.

➡️ Disabled Vehicles:
This law also protects drivers stopped on the roadside with hazard lights on.

👀 Stay Focused. Stay Safe.

It’s natural to be curious when you see activity on the roadside, but staying focused is one of the best ways you can help.

✔️ Keep your eyes on the road
✔️ Avoid “rubbernecking”
✔️ Maintain control of your vehicle

Even a moment of distraction can lead to a secondary crash.

Every time you move over or slow down, you are protecting someone’s parent, partner, friend, or coworker.

Let’s do our part to keep Minnesota’s responders safe.💛

Together, we can help ensure everyone makes it home and move Minnesota toward zero deaths.

We’re upgrading our fleet…

Starting today, we’re proud to introduce our newest rapid response unit: bicycles 🚴‍♂️ to improve response times in tight spaces.

Our crews have been training hard and are ready to roll out (literally) to better serve our community.

🚨 April Fools! 🚨

Don’t worry, we’ll be sticking with our ambulances. But we appreciate everyone who was ready to see us pedaling to emergencies 😂

Stay safe out there and happy April Fools Day!

Yesterday, our director John Fox attended a conference at the Minnesota State Capitol alongside other ambulance leaders, meeting with legislators to discuss the ongoing challenges facing EMS. Workforce, funding, and sustainability continue to significantly impact rural ambulance services.

“The legislature has provided measurable support over the past few years, but there is still much work to be done,” said John Fox, Director of Dodge Center Ambulance Service.

Fox also shared, “The ongoing engagement and support of both Senator Carla Nelson and Representative Duane Quam are sincerely appreciated.” 🚑

We’re proud to have leadership that continues to advocate for the future of rural EMS and the communities we serve.

Our team stands ready today as we do everyday. Please help us and our responder partners stay safe.

NO TRAVEL - PLEASE STAY HOME

With reports of 8-14 inches of snow (so far) with high winds, many (if not most) of our roadways in Dodge County are impassible. We have multiple vehicles all over the county stuck in the middle of the roadway, stuck in the ditch, etc. We've had squads (4x4 Tahoes) stuck in the snow. Night shift deputies who weren't able to get home early this morning. We even had a snow plow stuck earlier. Shelters are being opened up at our Fire Departments for many of the stranded.

PLEASE STAY HOME. If you decide to drive and you get stuck and/or need help you may be there for hours before we can get to you. You are not only risking your safety, but the safety of our first responders and tow truck drivers.

THANK YOU.

Your Sheriff,

Scott

Today we recognize the calm voices behind the call, the steady hands behind the scenes, and the professionals who are often the FIRST first responders.

Since the very first 911 call on February 16, 1968, this system has saved countless lives, and it continues to do so every day because of dedicated dispatchers who answer the call when it matters most.

To our Dodge County 911 Dispatchers: Thank you for your professionalism, compassion, quick thinking, and unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe. Your work may not always be seen, but it is always felt.

Our Story

The Dodge Center Ambulance Service operates two Advanced Life Support (ALS) capable ambulances and 1 Quick Response Vehicle (QRV). We are a part-time ALS, all 911 emergency ambulance service. We have a volunteer staff of 30 EMTs, Paramedics and RN/EMTs. The service is maintained by an Ambulance Director, 3 Full time EMT's, 3 Part time Paramedics, and numerous volunteers! Our Primary Service Area (PSA) covers over 14,000 residents in the cities of Dodge Center, Kasson, Mantorville and Claremont. We also have mutual aid agreements with the ambulance services in Hayfield and West Concord. When responding to emergencies we work closely with the Dodge Center Fire Department, Mantorville Fire Department and the Claremont Fire Department, as they serve as first responders to medical and traumatic emergencies. In addition we also have an outstanding working relationship with the Dodge County Sheriff’s office, their deputies and dispatchers. In the City of Kasson, we enjoy a great working relationship with the Kasson Police Department and their officers as well. We here at the Dodge Center Ambulance Service would not be so successful and professional in the delivery of emergency pre-hospital care without the dedicated help of ambulance staff, or our public safety partners.
