Today is Say Their Name Day 🤍

A day to gently honor the babies and children who are deeply loved, deeply missed and forever part of their families’ stories.

Pregnancy, infant and child loss leaves a quiet but profound imprint on a parent’s heart. It reshapes the way they move through the world - carrying both love and grief side by side. There is no timeline for this kind of loss, no “moving on”, only learning to live while holding space for someone who should still be here.

Saying their names keeps their memory alive. It acknowledges that they mattered, that they were here, and that they will always be loved.

If you know a parent who has experienced this kind of loss, know that your kindness matters. A simple acknowledgment, a listening ear, or remembering their child can mean more than words can express.

Today, and every day, we remember them. We love them. We miss them. We say their names. 💛

The first year after someone dies is often spoken about as if it is the hardest year. People count it like a milestone, the first birthday without them, the first holidays, the first anniversary of the day everything changed. There is an expectation that once you have survived those “firsts,” something about grief should become easier.

But the first year of grief isn’t the hardest. It is simply the first.

In that first year you are still learning what has happened. Your mind and body are trying to understand a reality that still feels impossible. Much of the time you are moving through shock, through disbelief, through the strange feeling that the world has continued while your own life has been split into before and after.

The second year, and the years that follow, bring a different kind of pain. By then the permanence of the loss is clearer. There are no longer just “firsts.” There are seconds, thirds, and countless ordinary days where their absence is always there.

Grief does not finish its work after twelve months. The first year is not a finish line people must reach in order to begin healing. It is simply the beginning of learning how to live in a world where someone you love is gone. ~the compassionate friends Victoria, Inc.

don't try and shove it into a dresser drawer or hide it in a shoe box on the closet shelf. how could we ask it to be small? make room for it. as uncomfortable as it is. If anyone asks you to pack it down or put it away let them know that they can walk around it or they can walk away. no more trying to shrink it. no more pretending you could.

🌟 Leadership Transition Announcement 🌟

We’re excited to share a leadership transition at Hospice of the Prairie & Prairie Home Health, a transition that is built to ensure growth, stability, and continued commitment to our community.

After 25 years of dedicated leadership, we thank Julie Pinkerton BS RN CHPN for expanding access to home health and hospice care and strengthening the clinical foundation of our program. Julie’s leadership positioned our nonprofit home care organization for meaningful, sustainable growth.

We are pleased to welcome Jeremy Rabe, MBA as our new Executive Director. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare leadership, Jeremy is committed to advancing the organization’s mission and supporting our professional staff and volunteers while working closely with community partners. Jeremy will begin his role as Executive Director on June 1, 2026 with Julie leaving the organization later in the summer.

As we say thank you to Julie and welcome to Jeremy, Hospice of the Prairie & Prairie Home Health remains committed to compassionate, high-quality home health and hospice care.❤️

We have served thousands of amazing women through our hospice and home health programs, women that exemplify grace under pressure and strength in what some might consider the hardest of journeys. We thank them for the privilege of walking alongside them. ❤
