Gardening is a great way to grow fresh produce and show your little ones where foods come from! Start planting in early spring (herbs, veggies, or flowers) and talk about what you’re grateful for as you care for them. By summer, you'll have something tangible to enjoy! 🌱

Don’t have the yard space to plant? Grow plants in pots on your windowsills instead! You can also look into community gardens and public green spaces near you to get in touch with nature in your neighborhood!

Omega-3 fatty acids are a great way of supporting heart health and can be found in many WIC-approved foods! You can find them in:

🐟Canned fish like salmon and tuna
🍳Eggs and soy products like tofu
🥑Brussels sprouts and avocados

Omega-3 fats have also been shown to be important during pregnancy, as they are important building blocks of the fetal brain and retina. These foods can help reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and support eye health! 💕

Beets are more than a vibrantly colored winter vegetable. They're a nutrient powerhouse! Beets are a great source of folate for a healthy pregnancy, fiber for good digestion, and iron to help fight tiredness. They even help support a healthy heart and blood pressure. 🫀
Enjoy them roasted until sweet and tender, blended into a smoothie, or chopped fresh onto a salad. Remember, you can use your WIC benefits for fresh or canned beets! 🥫

If your toddler is asking for a snack… for the third time in the last hour... we see you. 😅
Simple snacks using foods you already have can help fill the gaps between meals without a lot of prep. A few easy snack ideas:
✔️ Apple slices with peanut butter
✔️ Yogurt with fruit
✔️ Tortilla cheese roll up
Bonus: These are all WIC-approved foods, making it a little easier to keep simple, filling options on hand when hunger strikes (again).

Home Energy Plus (HE+) includes the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP), Weatherization Program, and Program Services. WHEAP provides assistance with heating and electricity costs and for energy crisis situations. Weatherization helps renters and homeowners reduce their energy consumption. Program Services provides services to eligible homeowners to repair or replace their heating systems, leaky or non-working water heaters.

Kids love being part of what’s happening. In the kitchen, that can look like a few simple things:
✔️ Stirring ingredients
✔️ Sprinkling toppings
✔️ Washing fruits and veggies
✔️ Carrying items to the counter
Small moments like these can help kids feel included, curious about food, and sometimes more open to trying what they helped make.
