📢 Protect Louisiana — Stop Measles Before It Starts

Measles may seem like a thing of the past, but it only takes one case to spark an outbreak — especially when vaccination rates drop.

🦠 What to Know:
• Measles is one of the most contagious viruses in the world — it can linger in the air for up to 2 hours after an infected person leaves the room.
• It’s not just a rash — measles can cause pneumonia, brain swelling, hearing loss, and even death, especially in young children and those with weakened immune systems.
• The MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is 97% effective after two doses and remains the best protection for individuals and communities.

📍 Louisiana Snapshot (2024–2025):
• Louisiana confirmed one recent case of measles in the Greater New Orleans area this year, linked to international travel.
• Kindergarten vaccination rates have fallen to ~86% statewide, below the 95% threshold needed for community immunity.
