Evidence has shown that with the current stress over events in our world, mental health issues including anxiety, depression, and substance use have increased in adults and children. For those of us in the Southeastern U.S. there is of course the added stressor of hurricane season. Further, veterans and active force military personnel are experiencing increased negative emotions related to the Afghanistan crisis. Reason to Celebrate:

Congress just passed the Autism CARES Act of 2019! The legislation now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

The passage of Autism CARES ensures continued federal support for autism research, monitoring, training and services at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The legislation authorizes more than $1.8 billion in funding over the next five years and places an increased emphasis on reducing health disparities and improving services for people with autism throughout the lifespan.

I recently returned from a week-long sabbatical of study and rest. I worked on updating my parenting seminar on addressing the emotional and behavioral challenges of young children and I developed a seminar to address the emotional and developmental challenges of teenage girls.
