Did you know that Donnelly is the home of one of the most unique and sought-after skincare brands in the U.S.? This remarkable, family-owned business started in 2003 in Boise and has been significant in establishing Idaho as a source for premier organic and natural body care products for spas, resorts, and online to its thousands of customers worldwide.
Emulate began in 2003 when founder & president, Julie Beaman-Stauts sought help with pain following a severe auto accident. Working with a Native American medicine man in Boise, she learned about the benefits of wild healing herbs, flowers and spiritual healing, studying with him for ten years. This was only the beginning for Stauts, which evolved into a life-long pursuit of creating products that help people suffering from arthritis, eczema and in developing an award-winning body and skincare line using wild herbal ingredients, many of which are hand-harvested in the mountains and meadows surrounding Donnelly and McCall. Emulate strengthens the performance of these wild herbs by combining them with CBD (from H**p), American Emu oil and organic Moringa oil (which was featured in 2018 as the number one antioxidant worldwide by CBS Good Morning America. All of Emulate’s products are free of parabens and any harmful chemicals and are completely biodegradable and safe for the environment.
Miraculous opportunities have presented themselves as Stauts has grown the business. Emulate has been the recipient of 5 STEP grants (State Trade Expansion Program), offered by the Idaho Department of Commerce and the U.S. Small Business Administration. These grants enabled Emulate to expand to Mexico in 2013, opening Emulate Naturals in Guadalajara, JAL Mexico where Stauts and her son, Peter Guerrero began distributing products to resorts, spas and golf courses in many very prestigious locations throughout Mexico, including the Vidanta Resorts & Cruise Ship (www.vidanta.com). All of the Emulate products exported to Mexico are manufactured in Donnelly.
Emulate has been recognized by the Better Business Bureau as a leading business in Idaho, been featured in national magazines, awarded prestigious recognitions by the U.S. Small Business Administration, and was a key contributor to Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter’s trade mission to Mexico in 2015.
In August 2020, Peter Guerrero was listed by the Idaho Business Review in their list of “Top 40 Business Leaders Under the Age of 40” for his accomplishments in building Emulate Naturals and his contributions in establishing Best Practices for spas throughout Mexico. Guerrero also serves as the U.S. Delegate to the Latin American Spa Association, the leading counsel to the president of Mexico regarding spa operations and their effects on tourism in Mexico. He is a graduate of Boise State University and is certified in Spa Management. Guerrero is also the creator of Save Our Beaches, a non-profit organization directed at the preservation of beaches by minimizing chemical pollution caused by harmful ingredients found in many sunscreens and body care products.
In September 2020, Emulate Natural Care was awarded “Most Innovative Brand in Emu Oil Body Care for North America” by the Global Health & Pharmacy, an online organization dedicated to public health & wellness.
With the advent of Covid-19, Emulate has proven to be an essential business, developing Sani Hands Hand Sanitizer made with 81% Idaho potato alcohol. They also provide many health-based supplements that aid in the strengthening of the immune system and offering anti-inflammatory benefits. For this reason, Emulate has been able to continue uninterrupted operation throughout the Covid pandemic, maintaining absolute sanitization practices that have resulted in zero reported Covid cases.
Over the past year, Guerrero and Stauts have developed the world’s first organic wellness and body care line for golfers called True Score™ (www.truescoregolf.com). This body care line has gained rapid support and endorsement from many professional golfers and is quickly being added to pro shops at world-class golf courses throughout Mexico. The line is now being introduced now to U.S. golf courses as well. Based upon the True Score™ Aromatherapy, which elicits calm, mental focus and endurance, the product line offers: Arthritis Rub for pain relief, Renew for foot and leg swelling, neuropathy and cramping, Flex for greater swing extension in the back and arm muscles, Ace Lip Balm, Endurance Natural Deodorant, Sunscreen SPF 50, BugOff Repellent and many others. True Score™ was the sponsor of the Akron Experience Golf Tournament in 2020, where two of the professional golfers credited True Score™ for their Hole-In-One, both within consecutive foursomes and within the same round. An almost unheard-of accomplishment.
Emulate is committed to supporting its community, state, and many non-profits, including the Red Cross for emergency disaster relief.
Emulate’s primary source of sales is their website at www.emulateproducts.com, custom private label product lines developed for spas (including the Coeur d’Alene Resort Spa, Tamarack Spa and Alpenglow Spa) and wholesale accounts which include Albertsons in McCall, the Boise Co-ops and many health food stores.
