DAY 8 - MEET CARMELLO! Carmello is a spirited and joyful five-year-old boy with a boundless enthusiasm for playing with his friends that also live at City of Lights. Carmello’s favorite color is bright red. Among his treasured toys, Nerf guns stand out as a source of endless fun and imaginative play. As Christmas approaches, Carmello’s heart is set on receiving a new set of LEGOs.

Carmello dreams of growing up to be a police officer, inspired by a desire to protect and serve his community, just like the heroes he admires in stories and on television. He imagines himself wearing the uniform one day, bravely helping others and making his neighborhood safer.

In terms of practical needs, Carmello wears boys’ clothing in size 7/8 or size medium in kids. DAY 7 - MEET EMERY!
Emery’s story begins with hope and resilience—her mother entered our recovery program while pregnant, seeking a fresh start and the support she needed to overcome her challenges with addiction. Just eight months ago, Emery was born, bringing immense joy and light into the lives of everyone at City of Lights. Emery is a radiant, beautiful bundle of joy whose presence reminds us all why our mission is so vital. She cherishes living with her mom, their bond growing stronger each day in a nurturing and stable environment.

Emery has a delightful personality that endears her to visitors and staff alike. She is enchanted by the color pink, wearing it whenever she can, which adds an extra sparkle to her already bright smile. Her favorite show to watch is *Bluey*, and she also adores her baby doll, nurturing it as if practicing for her future role as a caregiver.

As the winter season approaches, Emery’s immediate needs include essential items such as diapers and baby wipes, which are fundamental for her daily care. Additionally, she requires warm winter clothes in sizes 9-12 months to keep her comfortable and healthy during the colder months. Anthony celebrated his eleventh birthday while living at City of Lights, marking a special milestone in a place that has become a safe and supportive home for him and his family. Anthony’s favorite pastime is playing in the gym on our campus. His favorite color is red. Anthony has a broad love for sports, engaging in various physical games whenever he can. Whether he’s outside tossing his football with friends or competing in video and tabletop games inside, Anthony enjoys any activity that challenges his skills and allows him to connect with others. For Christmas, Anthony has his heart set on receiving a PS5 video game. Additionally, he dreams of receiving a hoodie.

Looking ahead, Anthony has ambitious goals. He aspires to join the Army, driven by a sense of duty and the desire to serve something greater than himself. At the same time, he harbors a strong wish to become a teacher one day, showing his thoughtful nature and eagerness to inspire and guide others. These dreams reflect his resilience and determination to create a positive future despite past challenges.

Anthony’s present situation is a testament to hope and healing. He is deeply grateful to live with his mom during her recovery from addiction, an experience that underscores the importance of family unity during difficult times. Day 5 - MEET REIGN!
Reign is a bright and joyful one-year-old who radiates sweetness and innocence. Although still very young, she has already experienced tremendous love and care since moving into City of Light, a nurturing environment where she lives with her mommy. Adjusting to this new chapter, Reign blossoms daily, surrounded by the supportive community here.
Her favorite color is purple, a shade that seems to perfectly match her vibrant and playful spirit. At our daycare, which serves as a safe haven during the day, Reign gets to spend part of her time engaging with other children her age. The daycare also allows her mother to focus on her recovery classes, knowing Reign is cared for and entertained. She loves cuddling her stuffed animals and one of her most cherished activities is pretending to cook. It’s no surprise that she dreams of receiving a play kitchen set for Christmas. Reign also adores dressing up in her princess outfits. She aspires to be a real-life princess when she grows up, embodying kindness, courage, and grace.
Currently, the most practical and urgent need for Reign and her mother involves daily essentials: diapers and wipes. Adequate supplies ensure Reign remains clean, comfortable, and healthy, reducing one more worry from her mother’s recovery journey.

Day 4 - MEET JOHN LUKE! John Luke is a vibrant seven-year-old boy whose joyful spirit shines through in everything he does, from running around with his friends to eagerly exploring new adventures. His favorite thing about living at City of Lights is playing with his friends who also live here. His absolute favorite colors are a lively blue and a bright red, which speaks of his fun personality. One of his favorite pastimes, which sparks his creativity, is playing with slime.
Christmas holds a special place in John Luke’s heart, and he has been hoping to receive a set of Legos this year. Looking towards the future, John Luke has big aspirations. He dreams of becoming a TEACHER one day, inspired by the desire to help others learn and grow just as he is doing now.
John Luke’s journey is intertwined deeply with the story of City of Lights. He now lives there with his mother, who is a shining example of resilience and hope. After graduating from our transformative program, his mother has chosen to give back to the community that supported her by becoming one of our dedicated House Supervisors. Together, they embody the spirit of healing and growth. John Luke has walked this path of healing side-by-side with his mother, witnessing firsthand the power of support and community. Today, he also plays an important role in welcoming and encouraging new families as they move in and begin to call City of Lights their home.
