Let’s be clear: we’re not ignoring the child we’re ignoring the behavior.

When done correctly, planned ignoring can be effective only when we are:
✨ Prompting replacement behaviors
✨ Reinforcing appropriate communication
✨ Staying present, regulated, and responsive

Planned ignoring without teaching what to do instead isn’t intervention it’s just silence.

Behavior change happens with connection + guidance, not punishment.

In ABA, pairing isn’t optional — it’s the foundation.
Before we ask for skills, compliance, or mands, we have to become reinforcing ourselves.

💡 No relationship = no motivation

We often get referrals and parents have this question….
They can look the same but they’re not the same.

Avoidance, shutdowns, meltdowns, rigidity, social withdrawal…

The why behind the behavior matters more than the behavior itself.

Anxiety is driven by fear and anticipation.

Autism is rooted in neurodevelopmental differences in communication, sensory processing, and regulation.

And yes they can co-exist.

Mislabeling leads to the wrong supports.

Understanding leads to better interventions, better outcomes, and less shame.

2026 🤍

This year reminded us that growth isn’t just measured in milestones, numbers, or goals reached it’s found in the quiet moments of connection, resilience, and showing up when it matters most.

At CMNB, we witnessed courage in our clients, compassion in our therapists, and trust from families who allow us into their journeys. That is not something we take lightly.

Some doors closed. Others opened in ways we never expected.

And through it all, we were reminded why we do this work—to support, to listen, to guide, and to believe in progress even when it’s not linear.

As we step into the next year, we do so with gratitude, humility, and a renewed commitment to ethical care, meaningful relationships, and impact that goes beyond sessions.
