🚨 Important Insurance Update for Our Patients 🚨
Beginning May 1, 2026, UnitedHealthcare will begin enforcing a policy change that may affect how your visit is covered at Southern Bone & Joint Specialists.
Although this policy was introduced in October 2025, the grace period has now ended. This means claims may be denied if required referrals are not on file.
Why this matters:
As a specialty provider, some UnitedHealthcare plans—especially Medicare Advantage HMO/POS plans—may now require a referral from your Primary Care Provider (P*P) for your visit to be covered.
What this means for you:
• If a referral is required and not on file, your visit may not be covered
• Requirements vary depending on your specific insurance plan
What you can do:
• Contact your P*P ahead of your appointment to obtain a referral (if required)
• Call your insurance provider to verify your benefits and referral requirements
We are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care and will continue working closely with our patients to help navigate these changes.
📞 If you have questions, please contact your insurance carrier directly or call our office—we’re here to help.
