It’s ALWAYS a good time to celebrate community health centers at Chiricahua! And while we officially observe National Health Center Week in August, we never stop acknowledging the critical role community health centers play in providing care to more than 33 million people across the United States every year!

This year we were joined by our partner Delta Dental in promoting “Spirit Week” – a time for health workers to be recognized for their exceptional efforts here in Cochise County and around the county. Every day during National Health Center Week, we marked a unique service that health centers provide – from our outreach to our clinical sites, and from medical to dental to behavioral health & pharmacy access – and everything in between!

At the end of the week, we recognized and honored one lucky Chiricahuan whose efforts continue to go above beyond for our patients. This year’s winner was Dawn Sherman, a Care Management Nurse who was the lucky winner of our Delta Dental Gift Basket!

Congratulations Dawn and Thank You Delta Dental of Arizona for your unwavering support of Chiricahua’s Vision of Health for All!

Temporary Lab Closures – Training for Improved Services

We are transitioning from LabCorp to Sonora Quest Labs for in-office phlebotomy. To prepare, our lab assistants must complete week-long training required by Sonora Quest.

The Chiricahua Health Foundation was thrilled to host the 4th Annual Chiricahua Giving Gala at the Gadsden Hotel in Douglas on Saturday, 9/13. The event, themed “The Phantom at the Gadsden” was SOLD OUT three weeks in advance and raised more than $130,000. Highlights of the event included a focus on Chiricahua’s Autism programming, a celebration of the “Reading Across Cochise County” partnership with Cochise County Superintendent’s Office, and the launch of the Chiricahua Health Foundation endowment through a generous gift from the Sierra Vista Industrial Development Authority! And… not to be outshone, the Phantom of the Opera indeed made not just an appearance, but a performance at the Gadsden! On Wednesday, September 3rd, Cochise County Supervisor Kathleen Gomez (District Two) joined the team from Chiricahua Community Health Centers for a briefing and tour of our Douglas Facilities. We first together explored the rich history of federally qualified health centers and shared our unique paths to living and working in Cochise County. Supervisor Gomez, who also chairs the County Health Department Board, was articulate in identifying her vision for improved healthcare access for residents in the greater Douglas community – especially in mental and behavioral health. As we toured Chiricahua’s Douglas clinics, Supervisor Gomez seemed to know everyone but made a special point of engaging with the dental team and sharing how her dad, sister and uncle had all served as dentists in Douglas/Pirtleville for many years! We ended our visit at the Chiricahua Call Center, our F Ave global communications hub for all our services in the Republic of Cochise County . Here, Supervisor Gomez spoke about how proud she was that Chiricahua had their call center in Douglas saying, “If you call Pizza Hut, you get someone in Wisconsin taking your order – but at Chiricahua, you get someone here in Cochise County, someone who knows your community and speaks your language. Well done!”

Chiricahua Community Health Centers joined a panel discussion at the Annual National Association of Community Health Centers NACHC-CHI Conference speaking on the importance of resilience and weather-related threats to programming and service continuity. With the solar installations in Douglas, AZ set to deploy on September 1st, Chiricahua clinics will soon be able to withstand power outages and continue to deliver high-quality care to our patients regardless of monsoon storms!
