I am reaching out to urge you to move to action! The recent decision by the Department of Education to exclude nutrition and dietetics, along with many other health professions, from its "professional degree" category is deeply concerning. This change could significantly impact students' access to federal financial aid, and we cannot remain silent.



ACEND, in collaboration with the Academy, has prepared the enclosed Action Alert to make it easy for you to help. I strongly encourage you to mobilize your community, especially students and preceptors, to contact their legislators. This is a critical moment to show students the power and importance of advocacy, especially when it impacts them so closely by limiting access to federal financial aid. Urgent Action Alert: Funding for SNAP-Ed

The signing of the reconciliation bill into law on July 4 eliminated funding for SNAP-Ed, disregarding decades of success in helping families eat balanced meals on a budget, improve overall health and reduce chronic disease. However, Congress can include SNAP-Ed funding in the appropriations bill, which is being discussed now. Voice your support for SNAP-Ed today by completing the Academy's new action alert.

Time is running out. Congress is moving quickly to pass legislation that endangers nutrition and food security for millions. We need your help – make your voice heard before these decisions are final.

Here’s what is at risk:

Elimination of SNAP-Ed, a proven program that has helped millions of families learn how to eat well on a budget, reduce diet-related diseases and support children’s long-term development.

Changes to Medicaid and SNAP will limit states’ ability to automatically certify eligible children for free school meals, putting millions of children at risk of losing access to nutritious food at school.

You can let everyone know to call this number and it will bring you directly to your representative and your senator. It will ask you for your ZIP code and then it will directly place you in your district where you can speak to their people and let them know to not vote for this bill. We need your help – make your voice heard before these decisions are made. In particular, we need all hands on deck to let Congress know that we don't agree with its proposal to cut the SNAP-Ed program. Protect Access to Nutrition Care and Federal Nutrition Programs

Congress is moving forward with budget reconciliation legislation that could significantly impact access to health care and nutrition programs. Proposals advancing in the House would affect Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and school meals—putting patient access and provider stability at risk.

Reach out to your representatives today with your concerns about these key provisions:

Medicaid Eligibility and Oversight: The proposal would slow the rate of future payment increases for Part B services, like Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), and limit Medicare eligibility to specific immigration categories, potentially affecting access for some older adults.

Medicare Payment and Eligibility Changes: Payment updates for services like MNT would be significantly reduced, and eligibility could be restricted.
