Urgent Action Alert: Funding for SNAP-Ed

The signing of the reconciliation bill into law on July 4 eliminated funding for SNAP-Ed, disregarding decades of success in helping families eat balanced meals on a budget, improve overall health and reduce chronic disease. However, Congress can include SNAP-Ed funding in the appropriations bill, which is being discussed now. Voice your support for SNAP-Ed today by completing the Academy's new action alert.

Time is running out. Congress is moving quickly to pass legislation that endangers nutrition and food security for millions. We need your help – make your voice heard before these decisions are final.

Here’s what is at risk:

Elimination of SNAP-Ed, a proven program that has helped millions of families learn how to eat well on a budget, reduce diet-related diseases and support children’s long-term development.

Changes to Medicaid and SNAP will limit states’ ability to automatically certify eligible children for free school meals, putting millions of children at risk of losing access to nutritious food at school.

Make sure to call you representatives at 202-225-3121 ! Everyone is going to be effected and do not think that you not be!

Take Action: Urge the Senate to Protect SNAP-Ed

At a time when diet-related diseases impact millions of families, driving up health care costs and placing an unsustainable burden on our health care system and the U.S. taxpayer, SNAP-Ed stands out as one of the nation’s most strategic and effective tools to promote individual, family, and community health and economic resilience. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Action Alert

Protect Access to Nutrition Care and Federal Nutrition Programs

Congress is moving forward with budget reconciliation legislation that could significantly impact access to health care and nutrition programs. Proposals advancing in the House would affect Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and school meals—putting patient access and provider stability at risk.

Reach out to your representatives today with your concerns about these key provisions:

Medicaid Eligibility and Oversight: The proposal would slow the rate of future payment increases for Part B services, like Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), and limit Medicare eligibility to specific immigration categories, potentially affecting access for some older adults.

Medicare Payment and Eligibility Changes: Payment updates for services like MNT would be significantly reduced, and eligibility could be restricted.

SNAP and School Meals at Risk: SNAP and school meal programs, including the Community Eligibility Provision, face potential cuts.

These changes could undermine the nation’s nutrition safety net and limit access to essential services for patients and families.

Our Wellness Story

My name is Denine Rogers, MS, RDN, LD, FAND and I am the owner of Living Healthy. I am a integrative functional registered dietitian nutritionist and I have a passion about health and improving the quality of life of my clients. For many years, I have been suffering from many health issues prior to being involved in integrative medicine. The health issues that I was having were severe pains from fibroid tumors, low iron levels, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. I began my quest in changing my health by becoming an integrative registered dietitian nutritionist, herbalist, and holistic health practitioner. By doing this, I have changed my eating habits, start an exercise regiment, cooking healthy meals and incorporate a positive low-stress lifestyle. Since I have been making changes in my life, I noticed that people were wondering what I was doing. I decided that it was time to start spreading the word about the importance of health and nutrition. I became the owner of Living Healthy which is a unique nutrition, health and wellness consulting business. I provide a patient-centered approach to evidenced based practice and recommendations. My experience includes advanced training in motivational interviewing and coaching. My wellness consulting approach is focused on functional foods and medicine in order to aid in the support of health and positive outcomes from chronic causing diseases.
