Doing a bit of one to one training with one of the members. Who was then 57years of age but was a student of mine in New York in Queensvillage at my Dojo there. He started in 1979 and left in84. I left the business in sept 95 . In 2019 when i opened the Dojo on Douglas Blvd ,He was living in Minton due north about 2hrs. So He traveled from there to Dville for class both in Group and sometimes some extra training. I am the head instructor and Aikijujitsu is one of the ingredients integrated into our defensive movement as is American Boxing for the past 50 Plus years. The Dojo teaches patience, weight and power management, timing and striking to pressure point targets. It is not taught at a tournament Karate. All of our training is reality based. He is learning the cooperations of his partner. Once he learns the holds , the timing, the angle then we can insert resistance. After that we inject chaos so that changes the attack because the intent and aggression is different. That teaches you to learn to overcome sudden movements and other unanticipated actions. Including getting overwhelmed. All of this happens in real combat. Resilience ,timing, the right tools at the right time is key.
