Have you ever been in Downward Facing Dog and thought “am I doing this right?”
A lot of people think the goal is to get your heels flat on the mat.
It’s not.
Downward Dog is actually about creating length through the spine, strength through the shoulders, and stability through the whole body.
A few key things to remember:
• Bend your knees if your hamstrings are tight
• Press the floor away through your hands
• Send your hips up and back
• Let your head relax between your arms
In yoga, the goal isn’t to force your body into the shape.
It’s to build the shape from strength and breath.
And over time, the posture meets you where you are.
