History
After years of working as an Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist (RDN), I began my yoga training almost 10 years ago. Meeting Mabes Morrill was a life changing moment for me. She taught yoga in Delaware for 45 years. I had recently lost my mother and found it inspiring to see that at over 90 years of age she was healthier and sharper than many people half her age. Yoga seemed to be benefitting her greatly. In 2015, she began training me to take over her classes in Dover, which I taught until September of 2019. I continued to build on my practice and completed formal Yoga Teacher Training. After meeting Doctor Ganesh Balu -- an MD who specializes in Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Pain -- I began teaching yoga classes at his facility in Dover in the fall of 2019. Dr. Balu provides an integrated program that is not offered in most traditional Eastern Medicine practices in the U.S. His Comprehensive Spine and Pain Center is located in Dover, Delaware. In addition to my yoga classes, his center provides many comprehensive programs for pain control including Yoga Therapy, Physical Therapy, Massage, Acupuncture, PRP, Stem Cell Injections and Counseling. Dr. Balu’s office on the 2nd floor of 240 Beiser Road in Dover, provides the ideal location for a variety of yoga classes. Class Schedule
There are 3 types of classes available for all levels of students at Dover Yoga: Yoga for beginners and intermediates, Gentle Yoga for people recovering from various injuries or limited mobility, and Mommy/Daddy & Toddler Classes. Contact Sandy Gloss for more information and class schedules at sglossrdn@gmail.com or 302 526-0672.

The industry connections of an advisory panel for the new dietary guidelines are notable, especially in light of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s criticism of corporate influence.

95% of us are missing the mark on health.

The comment in this image claims that fiber sources like beans are poisonous, but the science says the opposite.

While most people hit their protein goals easily, NHANES data shows that only 5% of Americans actually get enough FIBER.

Fiber is found only in plant foods… fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and legumes. You cannot get fiber from meat, eggs, or dairy.

Even if you include some vegetables, by cutting out high-fiber staples like legumes and whole grains, you are starving your gut’s primary support system of the diversity it needs to thrive.

Fiber isn't just "filler" that passes through you. It is the essential fuel for your gut microbiome. When your beneficial gut bacteria ferment fiber, they produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) like butyrate, which reduce inflammation and support your immune system.

Critics often point to lectins in beans. However, research from Harvard Health confirms that simple cooking, soaking, or canning neutralizes these compounds, leaving behind a powerhouse of minerals and longevity-linked nutrients.

A landmark study published in The Lancet found that high fiber intake is linked to a 15–30% reduction in all-cause mortality and chronic diseases like heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

But then I hear… “But I can't tolerate beans/fiber!"

If you feel bloated when you eat beans or high-fiber foods, it’s usually not an "intolerance". It’s a sign your gut microbiome needs training. Think of fiber like a gym workout for your gut. If you haven't lifted weights in years, you don't start with 100lbs.

The strategy is low and slow:
- Start small… try 2 tablespoons of beans a day rather than a whole bowl.
- Hydrate! Fiber needs water to move through your system effectively.
- And be consistent. It takes about 2–4 weeks for your microbial population to shift and become efficient at breaking down these fibers.

Protein is important, but it’s time we stop ignoring the nutrient that actually keeps our internal ecosystem thriving. Let’s close the .
