Today Dr. Hunting was back at Capitol Hill lobbying for hearing and speech issues. As a member of the Committee of Ambassadors, she is serving a second term to represent New Hampshire for the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

She had the privilege of joining a colleague from Vermont to encourage our representatives to support bills that will benefit our patients. These were the top 3 bills we chose to discuss, and you can feel free to write your representatives to ask them to support these issues as well!!

1. Co-sponsor the Medicare Audiology Access Improvement Act! This provides direct access to audiology services for Medicare beneficiaries. It also updates audiologists from the outdated classification of "supplier" to "practitioner" to allow for reimbursement for services already in an audiologist's scope of practice.

2. Fully fund IDEA. This bill provides much needed funding for educating individuals with disabilities. This is crucial to New Hampshire and children everywhere!

3. Permanently cover telehealth services. Provisions were made during COVID to expand these authorizations and have been very successful. These provisions continue to expire, which leaves patients scrambling for services. The most recent expiration occurred during the government shutdown and left many patients with gaps in care. The next expiration is on January 30 and will likely get another extension.

We feel incredibly fortunate to live in a state that understands the importance of these issues! Many of our representatives are already co-sponsoring these bills or are seriously looking into it. Communication is a human right and we will continue to work toward providing the best care, following best practices, and serving our patients to the best of our abilities!
