Could Butyrate Hold the Key to Better Mood?

One of the most important benefits of our gut microbiome is the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) - particularly butyrate, which has been consistently linked to positive mental health outcomes and reduced depression.

Research shows that two key butyrate-producing bacteria, Faecalibacterium and Coprococcus, are associated with positive quality of life indicators. Meanwhile, decreases in another butyrate producer, Fusicatenibacter saccharivorans, have been linked to feelings of anxiety and depression.
