We are incredibly grateful for this partnership and the meaningful support it brings to our patients. Pet therapy is more than just a visit, it’s comfort, connection and a powerful boost to healing. We look forward to the positive impact this program will continue to have on our patients as they move forward on their journeys toward wellness.
After a pause in regular programming, PAWS for People officially resumed its pet therapy visits at Dover Behavioral Health, bringing comfort, connection and emotional support back to the patients and staff. Dover Behavioral Health provides a full continuum of behavioral health services for children, adolescents and adults. It offers inpatient psychiatric care, outpatient programs and partial hospitalization services, all designed to support individuals facing a wide range of mental health challenges. The return of pet therapy enhances these services by adding a unique form of emotional support that has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation.
Dedicated PAWS team, Martha Timlin & Erte, participated in the reopening. Erte, a very handsome, Briard pup, has a gentle demeanor and an intuitive connection to people, and he quickly became a source of comfort for everyone. For many patients, interactions with therapy animals can serve as a bridge --- helping them open up emotionally, engage more fully in treatment, and experience moments of calm amid difficult circumstances.
As PAWS for People continues to expand it reach, partnerships like the one with Dover Behavioral Health highlight the vital role that pet therapy plays in mental health care. With Dover Behavioral Health employees like Robert Bond and Mr. Doug, and with teams like Martha & Erte leading the way, the program’s return signals a renewed commitment to compassionate, comprehensive healing.
