Still can’t believe it 🙌

My husband and I never took a honeymoon. We had barely enough money after paying for our wedding that we got a Groupon deal at a cheap motel in Jackson, NH in 2012.

We didn’t grow up with much. First time ever having passports. First trip without the kids.

World’s cheesiest smile 😚

But really I’m cheesing so hard because I’m so thankful.

Thankful people reach out and truly trust me when they are often at their worst, both physically and mentally.

I see men and women go from being flat, reserved and in emotional (and physical) pain, to feeling better than they have in years and start living the life they deserve.

I saw a patient this morning. When I first met her, she wore only black and lost her spark. She was in a total funk. A year later, she wears all the fun colors, gives me the biggest hugs and tells me she hasn’t felt this good in years. She’s post menopausal and was so happy to tell me she’s up at 6:30 am taking care of her chickens. And that my friends, is what this is all about! 🙌

It’s not about a number on the scale, a pant size, or your hormone labs compared to someone else’s.

It’s about living your best life while you’re here. Because tomorrow is never promised. It’s about reducing your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis…and oh if you enjoy seggs more now too- you are welcome! 😘

20 years as a nurse. More than 20 years ago I learned about primary prevention. Let’s prevent disease before it actually develops! 🙌 Amen! 👩‍⚕️

Secondary prevention aims to prevent worsening or progression of already established diseases.

When people (like myself) see their insurance covers GLP-1s for heart disease reduction- we think prevention. Yes. My Dad had triple bypass in his early 50’s and his sister dropped dead of a heart attack around that age too. I don’t want to be a statistic because of my genetics! And I don’t want this for my patients either! 🫀

Whelp. The reality is insurance comes back with “we won’t cover GLP-1s for “weight loss alone”. And when you fire back to them about this persons horrible metabolic dysfunction and genetics they ask- “Have they had a stroke?” and “Have they had a heart attack or have established cardiovascular disease?”

To which my response is “NO and I don’t want them to have one because they have major risk factors for heart disease and stroke!”

And insurance still denies it. ⚠️‼️

The reality is insurance wants us to be sick. They will get their 💰 when we are sick and in the hospital. They don’t give a rats ass about you or your health.

Ladies listen to your bodies. No one knows it better than you do.

Last year I was having some cycle changes. Assumed it was my hormones changing (we know what assuming does) 🙃

Symptoms were much better once I started some Progesterone (helps with mood, sleep and heavy bleeding) so I didn’t think an endometrial biopsy was necessary.

I’m a big “stay in your lane” provider and boy I’m glad I did. Turns out I have an endometrial polyp and will be having that removed and an endometrial ablation.

Moral of the story. Listen to your body. Changes may not be “normal”. Find a provider who knows their stuff and will listen to you. 🫶

Healing your relationship with your body and food looks like:
❣️ Realizing you can’t change genetics.
❣️ Recognizing food as fuel. It’s not a moral issue. Food is neither “good” or “bad”.
❣️ Acknowledging deprivation and punishment in terms of diet and exercise never got you anywhere. In fact it wrecked your mental health.
❣️ Distancing yourself from who voice criticism to your looks
❣️ Relishing in the idea that you are meant to be majestic AND take up space!
❣️ Knowing how you look is the least important thing about you.
