Did You Know?
The Battle Between Vitamin C & Sugar
My wise & healthy friend, Angela from New Life Nutrition shared this...
"Did you know Vitamin C and glucose (or sugar) use the same doorway to get into your cells? It's called the glut-1 receptor, and because Vitamin C and glucose molecules are so similar, they compete for entry into your cells. They are both escorted into the cell by insulin which acts as the "key" to unlock the door. Our cells need both Vitamin C and glucose inside of them in order to perform their important functions, but our cells tend to have an affinity for the sugar. Therefore, if you are consuming a lot of sugar, the Vitamin C you intake when are starting to feel a cold coming on is simply flushed out of your system! Not only is the Vitamin C gone but so is the antioxidant support your body needs to fight off illness and inflammation. Is it possible we see more illness during the holiday seasons because we are consuming more sugar? There's some food for thought. In order to have a healthy immune response, limit your sugar and carbohydrate intake to a reasonable amount so that your body can use Vitamin C efficiently."
