Bayhealth’s mission is to strengthen the health of our community, one life at a time. As central and southern Delaware’s largest healthcare system, Bayhealth is comprised of Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus and Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus, the freestanding Emergency Department in Smyrna as well as numerous satellite facilities and employed physician practices encompassing a variety of specialties. Bayhealth is a technologically advanced not-for-profit healthcare system with more than 4,000 employees and a medical staff of more than 400 physicians. In Fiscal Year 2020, Bayhealth recorded 96,820 emergency department visits, 18,574 patients admitted to beds, 2,241 births, and provided $68.16 million in unreimbursed care to patients.

When Patricia “Patti” Fisher moved to Dover in 2019 after the sudden loss of her husband, she wanted a new beginning near family. She never expected that a routine CT scan would reveal ovarian cancer.

“I wasn’t sick at all,” Fisher said. “I felt great. My brother had just had a heart attack, so I asked my doctor to run some tests. She suggested a CT scan, and that’s when everything changed.”

More than 3,000 Delaware residents from across the state came together on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Bayhealth at Blue Hen, Conference Center in Dover for the first-ever Bayhealth Community Wellness Fair, creating a powerful day of connection, prevention and care.

Bayhealth’s fair provided more than 2,000 free health screenings at no cost to attendees, including blood pressure checks, glucose testing, cholesterol screenings and flu shots. Nearly 1,000 community members received boxes of nutritious food, generously supplied by partners at the Food Bank of Delaware.

Families also had access to children’s activities, baby supplies and bilingual assistance for Spanish- and Haitian Creole-speaking residents. Dozens of local organizations were on-site to share resources related to housing, employment and support services.
